Joker could simply have developed feeling for EDI without an oversexualized physical form.

Love, even romantic love =/=sex necesarilly.

Unfortunately, the blatantly oversexualized appearance of the fembot EDI took over undermined all that.   What could have been a serious, thoughtful examination on the potential for coexistence between organic and synthetic life turned into an adolecent joke.

The timing of the romance just makes it even worse. Joker doesn't express any romantic interest for EDI until she gets the body.

If they had to give EDI a body she should have kept it locked away in the AI core while aboard the ship, opting to use the Normandy's interfaces and holographic form instead. Or made it a customized LOKI mech or something. Ideally though I think they shouldn't have introduced the romance at all or just vaguely hint at it.

Eh they needed something with massive knockers as miranda wasn't in it as much (or at all).
Liara's benezia tribute probably wasn't enough.

Oh ya, my bad. I forgot the audience Mass Effect is now aiming at.

Bingo.

I mean, I'm not opposed to them having a relationship.  I'm not opposed to EDI having a body.  Even one that appears female.

But come on!  That was way over the top!

Didn't the devs say that she "needed" to be sexy?

The artbook does say that, although it never explains why.

Only in the beginning, and it's Joker who caricaturizes an adolescent joke. With no previous experience as a starting point EDI approaches the whole relationship thing in a mature fashion... If shep encourages it. At one point she says she'd even "risk non-functionality" for him. If that's not a statement of love I dunno what is.

EDIT: oops that was in response to Iakus' post above. Stupid phone.

One think I hate is how you can't change how their "relationship" goes, no matter whether you encourage it or discourage it.

Both EDI and Joker act as if your discouragement never happened.

Well, EDI inherited a body from essentially an infiltration unit, and I guess that seduction might be a part of Eva Core's programming...in which case her appearance makes sense.

I remember that one of the characters insinuated that TIM might've porked the sexbot. I can't remember who said so. Maybe it was EDI.

I don't remember anybody saying that, but then again, my memory ain't as good as it should be. But, there was a character named Eva Coré in the comic Evolution. TIM is hinted to have feelings for her, but she seemed pretty unresponsive. She dies at the end of the comic.

So I read it more like him finally getting the woman he never could... one way or another.

I can't remember, it does seem like it was a rumor as told by one of the character, or maybe I'm just remembering something wrong.

If it's true, then it's an attempt to make TIM look like some sort of creep, but Joker is presumably banging it as well, so what does that say about Joker? Did the devs just think, "Oh, well it's Joker. He has a smowball's chance in hell to get a hot woman, so instead it would be perfectly plausible for this thing to crush his pelvis rather than an actual woman."

I dunno, I think Joker and EDI already established a pretty good relationship before she ever got a body.

the same reason Liara and FemShep needed breast enlargement

and Ashley needed a make-over

This is one of those issues where I'm utterly baffled as to why there even is an issue. Joker's copilot suddenly obtains a physical body that happens to be attractive, which Joker is then attracted to... bam.

Throw in a capable of timely BJs and suddenly Ashley's rapid rise in rank makes much more sense...

Because the timing of it makes it look like Joker is only attracted to EDI after she gets the body. This undermines the actual romantic aspects and makes it look like Joker just has some weird robot fetish instead of actual feelings.

Very rarely does it feel like an actual relationship, most of the time it looks like EDI is there just so he can get his rocks off.

Why would Joker be sexually attracted to a being with no sexual characteristics? In any case, he was clearly overcompensating with denying any attraction in ME2. And as it's mentioned that Joker would clearly be quite happy about EDI's body, before he actually sees it, it seems clear that there was something present before EDI's upgrade.

It all depends on your view of EDI.  Do you consider her a person capable of independant thought and complex relationships (any type of relationship) or do you consider her just another machine.  Life doesn't necessarily mean you have to have blood pumping through your body.  As for Joker only caring about her after EDI got a body, that's a statement that full of BS.  They began a relationship in ME2 that only deepened through out and in between the two games.  I thought it was a little weird at first too, but then I started talking to EDI and all she wants to do is make Joker happy.  A machine wouldn't give a damn about a person being happy, hell, it wouldn't have an opinion either way.  EDI is a person a living being, not a machine, so her and Joker's relationship isn't all that out of the realm of ordinary.

Unless edi's body is made of the same stuff as the t1000, my mind boggles as to what joker is actually doing with it.
I wonder if it gunks up the joints.

The thing is, Joker never showed any particular attraction to EDI before she got a set of quadruple-D mammaries and a paint job that has more than a passing resemblance to a corset and garters.

I mean, in ME2, the development of their relationship seemed natural, even sweet.  Then she gets a body and it's like Joker reverted to junior high levels of maturity.

Padded interior, I'm going to guess. She was built as an infiltration unit, after all.

He did, he just denied it at the end of ME2. I mean, there wasn't anything to be sexually attracted to at the time, but there was some form of romantic attraction there.

Also, I'm reasonably sure it's not quadruple-D.

Attraction is not just physical.  And EDI's new body has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer
