Now I've seen some sh*t on this board, but it is definitely the wrong place for such threads. I hate being a dick and I know lot's of people have died, but we all know about it and many will never forget it. There's no need to bring it up time and time again. There are things that should be collectively remembered but this is not one of them.

Edit: or just read the post above me.

It's twelve years past. TWELVE YEARS! Over a decade.

Stop victimizing the past, what's done is done, there is NO point in dwelling on it. Terrorists happened, people died, countries got invaded, end of story. The world is still the same rotten hunk of dirt, 9/11 or no.

If you want to be political, sympathize with the millions of people suffering every single day because they don't have food, clean water, medicine and are being oppressed by corrupt regimes and enduring all other kinds of open hostility from around their neighbourhood. Those people have a far worse fate and they have it every single day. Remember THAT for a change!

Also, why the F- would you start this nonsense in a videogame MP section?????????

In Russia celebration of 9th May 1945 is still the main national event. If you even dare to say that it's just stupid, you may get your face slapped or worse.

Don't comprare 68 years (something that noone even remembers now) to 12 :\\

Victory over Fascism would've meant more if Stalin wasn't a Fascist himself.

It just sucks that Stalin was a fascist in Communist clothing.

I didn't say it shouldn't be remembered. I said it's hypocritical to attribute this or any other event a substantial need to be remembered over any other equal or superiour kinds of sh*t that happened ever since we have a recorded history or is happening right now.

WW2, 9/11 or whatever is not the least bit more important than current misery, especially if you compare it to the fact that some of that misery is even longer running and claimed FAR more lives and led even FAR more people again to lead a life that I dare say everyone in here can't possibly fathom on how wretched and "inhuman" it is.

But that's all I am going to say, this thread is grossly inappropriate anyway.

I'm just saying people caring way too much. Something that happened 68 or 12 years ago should not be prevailing part of country's culture.

Yes bad things do happen to many people in many countries. That is not up for debate.  Many of the forumites here are from the US.  I agree that this thread doesn't belong in this forum.  It should be moved to off topic. Also, I do care when things like this happen to people anywhere.

Some people remember the loss of their friends and family even after 12 years.

The second part of your post I agree with also though.

Meh, it happened, Move On.

This garbage caused people in this country to trust war hawk politicians and sacrifice their individuality and liberty for "security." We've got Kardashians getting more coverage than whistleblowers like Edward Snowden and chastise Bradley Manning for giving the public a clue. Politicians on both sides only follow then money but when an honest (politically) dude gets his freak on, the media kills his career to blot out his positive actions (Weiner).

But... to reply to the thread, I was 12, trying to register for a new high school I was attending when cops came in and informed the staff that school was closed. When I got home, I thought I saw a movie trailer until I saw Charles Gibson speaking with a very serious tone. Even more emotional was seeing The Daily Show for the first time, that episode made me watch from then on, having a new sense of respect for Jon Stewart. Yes, it was a horrible thing, but lets move the hell on. Nobody's exactly doing "remembrance" posts for the 188 children in Syria this year or the ones that were executed last year. How about we remember the memories of all fallen people from every tragedy every year?

In Syria I'd thnk they probably are doing remembrance posts for all those innocent kids.  Mods please move this post to Off Topic.  It doesn't belong here.

I was early to work, which was near the Sears Tower. I collected my stuff and went home.

Basically all of downtown Chicago was empty. Only a few people here and there. It was so strange. I never felt that alone in my entire life.

That's what I remember the most.

So what we have learned here is that some people still hero worship 9/11 as a day we all got a free pass to kill people in the middle east and that some people don't care or have moved on. Let's enjoy the rest of the day :-)

No, what we learned is that, as always, discussing politics makes everyone look like stupid ***holes.

sorry if i offended anyone by bringing this up and if i knew how to close a topic i would. just wanted to pay tribute to my brother and those who lost their lifes. to all those who shared a story.. thank you, it helps me deal with his death in some way

I'm very sorry  for your loss. There is nothing wrong with paying tribute to the heroes and victims that died on 9/11. Or to your brother. You just picked a bad place to post such a topic. Lots of people that like to ruffle feathers on this forum.

Sad thing is, this thread wasn't even about politics. It was about paying tribute. :?
