I'm hoping the reasons and motivations behind the Red Templars is properly explored. Not just "Dwarves say no lyrium! Let's just get some of that crazy red stuff from Kirkwall. LOL". Personally, I want the faction to only appear if we as the Inquisitor force their hand. We block off their lyrium supply, we take major holdings and start to turn the public against them. But I don't think that'll happen.

We've known for two games now that lyrium is addictive. If the Templars can't get any through the Chantry, it's not surprising they'd seek an alternate source.

What's odd is the sudden preponderance of it and that they know exactly where to find it. Perhaps it's calling to them.

They are scraping it off of Merideth.

Well, we saw interest in retracing Hawke's route in DA2, either with Wardens or those Dwarf guys.  So I guess another expedition might have been mounted.

Jeez, everything really is Hawke's fault.

Would be boring, lazy and would just make the pro mages louder. I rather the big bad not be connected to either faction. Would just create biasim and after DA2, just feel lazy.

^ This

I would rather have the Red Templars be a mirror image of Blood mages, by using desperation to gain an edge. And them becoming insane caused them to become a splinter group

This being Raul Julia's last role is a bit saddening. On topic, I didn't know that the Templars were the big bad evil in da2...must have missed that cutscene. The first response nails my sentiments on the head.

I was going to say, nearly all the templars in both DA games to date have been pretty cool. Just Meredith, Mr. Final Solution and that one in Awakening who was all over Anders like white on rice to fill out the psycho ranks.

Most of the Templars in DA2 were ****s.

Was there a game I didn't play, where the Templars were the big bad? If that is the case, can someone please point me towards it.

It would never happen, but I truly want both factions completely swallowed up in the opening of the tears.

Those Abominations that Uldred's group becomes start scouring the world for mages and forcing the change.

The Templars just get devoured.

The Red Templars are somebody or something's puppets, I'd wager... and red lyrium are the strings.

My guess is that they are somehow helped (or somehow actually) cause the rip in the Fade.

Well, they're addicts. Does that count?

In any case, some people probably agree with the Empire's motives in TOR as well; that doesn't mean we have to make them equivalent.

It's possible we can oppose the Andrastian Chantry and the templars in Inquisition, or perhaps let an enemy faction neutralize them by refusing to ally with them. I'm hoping we're not railroaded into aiding either faction the way Hawke was with Petrice and Meredith.

Yep.

No, if there is any finger pointing that pointing should all be pointed towards Anders. (Not BroAnders of DAO:A. He was awesome.) Hence the "GOD DAMN IT ANDERS!" meme.

Well it was already stated that the Red Templars are a splinter group, so it's safe to say that they don't represent the entire Templar Order

Or how about Bartrand? The person who spearheaded the campaign into the deep roads, stole the lyrium idol and then sold it to a crazy person?

I will say both either Bartrand and Anders are good sources for blame. And Meredith wasn't crazy at the start. Heck, she isn't even evil and if anything she became chaotic good.

Didn't the article that first described them refer to them as a templar splinter group? The argument then turned into whether that meant all the templars because of Lampert's templars were a splinter group. I still have to doubt it though. Wouldn't there have been be "standard" templars for there to be Red Templars? Otherwise everyone could just call them "templars."

It's Varric's fault as well because he recruited Hawke and handed the Lyrium Idol to Bartrand.

She wasn't. 1. She never approved of anything that the other suspicious members of Templars were doing. She disapproved of the right of tranquility when it was first suggested before she got her hands on her new toy that drove her mad.  2. All the rumors of her before the final act were false. 3. We the player know very little about her as person in general as well. Too little screen time.
