I was thinking they'd go the Jedi route too a farm or normal person gets to become skywalker but I'd really like to avoid this scenario. I like being a spector with a get out of jail free card and there aren't many established jobs that let me do that. I didn't mind at all being a marine/space cowboy for the game and we have enough Jade Empires running around in gaming already.

I'd also like the script to be written were fem hero is the default cannon character and male hero is the secondary optional hero for once this way we get scenarios plausible for both and she doesn't end up having to engage butch mode inorder to do things like Yahg shove fest or running, dancing, sitting, ect like male hero, it would also make male hero seem more intelligent him shoving spector girl out the window no woman in her right mind would do that! They'd use their brains first brawns second.

I still want customization options I'd like tons more infact like ME bare minimum or EvE Online as my highest bar as far as the face and features customization goes. Also keep the clothing on both M and F leads and crew respectable no more Jack near naked, Samura's ridiculous armor, or Jacob's catsuit really. The time and place to show that off is in the bed room not in battle.

I'd also like to pick and customize my species human, quarian, turian at least maybe even get different starts and add in some scenes that only occur if you're the right species and sex for them to count.

It will either be heavily based on Mal Reynolds from Firefly or at the least be voiced by Nathan Fillion. FemMal will be voiced by Morena Baccharin.

I'm in the camp of people that think it will be a commoner rising to the challenge to give us a different start than the larger than life elite soldier that we had in Shepard in the intro of ME1.

And that commoner will end up being the elite soldier, just like Shepard was. ;)
Most stories in games are appealing because you get to play a character that has the skills to get the job done.
Even if they start with an average joe, he/she will rise to the occasion. End result is the same.

So ME4 will feature a protagonist that has the skills, in a different setting/storyline. Shepard 2.0

Yes. The PC will end up at the top eventually. But the important distinction is that he/she is a "blank canvas" for bioware/the player to paint a picture on. Maybe ME4 will focus more on the distinction of schools of thought between biotics, techies and pure soldiers with more obvious unique histories and maybe even social factions to explore the existing lore of the game. There's a huge difference between the two formats I think.

It would perhaps play a bit more like a traditional RPG compared to the more fleshed out "ready to go"  cinematic action of the original trilogy. Which perhaps would speak against the "blank canvas" PC if they stick to the format of the first games...

I've seen two possibilities that I would really enjoy: a James Bond-esque superspy, or a Malcolm Reynolds style rogue

I personally really hope for someone along those lines, as it would be a nice change from the Shepard type protagonist while still allowing for having a simular set up in regards to having a ship and squadmates.

My ideal Mass Effect 4 would honestly be a more character driven, smaller scope story (not focused around stopping some universe ending threat) focused more on seedier underbelly and political subterfuge of the ME universe: with the new protagonist getting somehow roped into some power struggle or anothering without meaning to and having to do his/her best to surivie it.

... or maybe thats just because I want to play a game thats basically more or less Firefly set in the Mass Effect universe.

Basically space Indiana Jones.

Space treasure hunters can be either morally "good" or corrupt so its the ideal platform for a variety of customization. Whereas soldiers have to act within certain parameters to be remotely believable.

I would welcome something like that..It's almost like a mix of Liara and Shepard alike.

That said, you weren't all that restricted to the role of soldier until the last game. The first one set up the whole first human spectre thing, the second had you even more rogue than a spectre in a way (via Cerberus.. and even then, TIM gave you a lot of leverage. "You always have a choice, Shepard.."), and only until 3 did you start respecting authority automatically. You only did that for the first quest in ME1 - after that point, Anderson said you don't answer to anyone, while Hackett would occassionally pop up on the com acting like he didn't have any other competent soldiers in the galaxy. You could avoid the quests or tell him you were busy chasing Saren.

Hopefully we might get a choice of other major species?
