There is no support in this game.

Everything can effectively solo and kill the enemy given the right loadout.

Now about this clip I noticed a few things:

This clip is vogineer done right- Keeping a distance and letting the team take all the damage and aggro while supporting them with debuffs and the occassional fire/tech burst.

Only scrubs think volus are support kits.

1) He was very skilled indeed, that's why he provides a good example of how the volus engineer should be played.

2) Imagine that, a 500 shields kit constantly getting health-gated. That's why he uses shield boost every once in a while. It's notable that he rarely uses his cloak or bubble and continues to kill enemies from soft cover while health gated. 

3) The clip shows Feneckus killing a lot of things with CSMG headshots, proxy mine FEs and smart use of recon mine. That's not support. And he uses shield boost for himself and doesn't follow his teammates around locking up their weapons.

This clip is the volus engineer done right indeed. Though not by being support, but rather by killing lots of elite mooks and bosses.

And your comment about the volus merc is laughable. Take a look at the +1 part in my signature to see what kind of havoc four of them can cause.

It's the PPR X + what look like incendiary IV that causes the havoc not the kit . You can put a PPR X+ incendiary IV on almost any kit in the game and it'll be good.

As for the volus gameplay it must be a difference of opinion. It looked to me like support gameplay and you took it as being more combat, that's not exact science and I figured that arguing about it is goofy so I'll leave it at that.

This. The volus merc can use his drone and decoy to draw a lot of aggro away from himself, which allows him to kill lots of things with his weapon. That makes him a weapons platform and not a support character.

Nah, lolGI is a crutch and takes no skill to play, cause obviously, you just slap Cyclonic IV on him and you're good to go!

Volus for sure are a support character, being able to support does not mean you can't score big or lead the score board. Shield boost instantly makes them a support character, they can still produce massive offense though.

You're missing the point. Let me put it this way, put a claymore on a GI and it'll kick ass. Put a claymore on a volus and it'll kick ass too. Now put a katana on a GI and it'll still perform well on gold, put a katana on a volus and get your ass handed to you.

Point is the PPR is what melts enemies not the kit.

This is something I find a bit bizarre.  I don't dispute the comment at all but I can honestly say I have never seen a full melee GI in any game I have every played.  As a matter of fact I've only seen a person even use the GI melee more than a handful of times.

Because being the best melee kit in the game <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< being the best weapon kit in the game.

I've seen BACON play him alright, but he died a lot, and didn't outscore me like he usually does.

That's because you're a very good player, who has access to very good weapons.  The object of the game is to kill the enemies before they kill you.  Good players can accomplish this by killing the enemies quickly, not giving them a chance to kill anyone.  

Average or below-average players rocking Uncommons or Level 1 Rare weapons are not able to kill enemies fast enough for killing power to be their only priority in building/playstyle.  They have to concentrate on not being killed first - which is why they may be more successful by playing characters like the Volus, melee Jugg, etc. in a support role.
