So I am new to the whole MP thing and have finally started to play ME3 MP and enjoy it. Funny when I was trying to get that ME3 achievement that was something like highest level for MP, I really hated it.. now that its over, I enjoy it. Go figure......anyway, so I see people talking about pug's all the time and have no clue as to what it means. So what is it? Negative, good, ugly...? Yeah, lots of guessing on my end, so if someone could explain, I would be thankful.

Neutral in actuality though a lot of people use it negatively.

A pug is anyone who gets put together by the random matchmaker. If someone is in a lobby and they didn't get there by invite, they are a pug.

Edit: I believe it is an acronym from the MMORPG world that means public unknown game®, but I'm not sure about that.

Image IPB'd: poster below me is probably right.

It has taken on many definitions (as will happen with English words) (P)ick (U)p (G)amer or (P)ick (U)p (G)ame seem to be the most common terms

Although, when it is a PUG who doesn't use medgels during objective waves, I choose to believe it stands for (P)urely (U)nwitting (G)ranitehead

Pugs can be any skill level. It's not specific.

Think of it like Russian Roulette.

^^^ This and it is short for "Pick Up Group" although in most other games aside from ME3 multiplayer you rarely hear or read PUG, you read/hear PUB which is short for Public Match.

Wrong.

Pugs can be any skill level. It's not specific.

Think of it like Russian Roulette.

This.

Can be good or bad players, but the term leans more towards the bad (ie, not doing objectives, doing silly things like charging into a spawn and dying repeatedly, etc).

You do realise that you're talking about the majority of the MP base? I don't know if we figured out what the rough percentage of players who are BSNers (just using an alternate banner doesn't necessary qualify; also many BSNers like to use the default banners [and, of course, BSNers are the elite Image IPB]) is.

Regardless, most people slum it in the pugging trenches.

I figure the percentage of BSNers in the playerbase at any given point is less than or equal to the UR drop rate.
