People will think the game takes place in a kitchen. Nobody will buy the game if they do that. It will bomb worse than DA2 if they use a female.

Guess you are in denial that 47% of gamers are now women. You obviously dont like us invading your mancave.

They said they would be using the female for the marketing awhile back. I doubt it will be for the box art but the woman will be seen in the marketing. I suggest you learn to deal with it

Well it was a joke so no need to get angry. But 47% of gamers being women is the funniest joke of all time so thanks for the laugh.

If there were really that many women buying Bioware games, I doubt they would have screwed over straight femshep for romances like they did in ME3.

Yeah... about 40% of gamers are female. Why is that so shocking? Move with the times people. Move with the times.

Bull****. It sold six million copies. Capcom said it performed "below expectations," not that it didn't turn a profit or that it tanked like Aveline.

But please, go on. The amount of salt in your post could preserve an entire butcher shop. It's quite entertaining.

No, My Little Social Justice Crusader. It's not enough because it's still below Square Enix's sales expectation.

And there you have it folks.  RE6 gets a pass, Tomb Raider does not.

It's hypocritical. It's bull****. It's being called out.

What makes it so funny is how people actually believe that.

'Cause that's plenty of women gamers in Starcraft and fighting game tournaments, Rofl.

Because men feel violated. We're invading their fun space. And dont get me started on the men who play as women in Guild Wars 2 and have hit on me.

Vocal minority ladies on BSN are trying to trick Bioware into making the default Inquisitor a female by making up numbers. Here is a fact for you: More than 80% of Mass Effect 3 players played a male Shepard. Lol BSN is so funny sometimes

Melca, you are aware that the ESA report you're touting does not discriminate "core" games from mobile apps and facebook flash games, yes?

So? Its still 2013 and women have the right to be represented in games. There will NEVER be a default female character but they are NOT going to get rid of it.  We will still have the choice to play as a woman.

Why do some of you feel so threatened?

@Seboist yes! Because this is all a huge conspiracy from the NSA. So men can become women, and women can become men!

Pff! Female gamers!? Ho! what a funny joke! Maybe 60 years later, in the 21 century... oh wait.

I'd love it if they released statistics for DA:O and DA2 the way they did for ME2 & 3, but since they haven't, yeah, we can't assume anything about who plays Dragon Age games.  I don't doubt that more guys play than women, but we can't assume that they're all playing male characters, or that they'd be adverse to seeing female characters in advertising.

I'm pretty sure this thread is *just* about marketing the game, right?  It seems like these types of threads always veer into "boys rule, girls drool" territory pretty fast.  I just want a wicked cool poster with a female elf, dwarf, or qunari Inquisitor on it.  I'm pretty sure catering to my uterus in such a manner will not decrease sales of DA:I.

But will it do anything to increase sales, that's the question.

Will it make people think "great, you can play a male OR female!" or will it make people think "what is this Dragon Age? Last time it was a guy, this time it's a girl. That's all wishy-washy, no thanks."

The question isn't where it will do harm, it's whether it will do benefit.

Seriously, I keep seeing that argument, and it really sounds like "guys are too dumb to understand that this game has a character creator, but women can deal with it."  Which I don't believe you believe, much less anyone else using this line of thought.

DA:O sold more copies than DA2, and there were posters and trailers with female Wardens being promoted.  Nobody freaked out, no sales were lost.  If I get my poster with a female qunari on it, I am *positive* that you, Entropic Angel, will not suddenly get woozy and forget that you can make a male character in this game.  It'll be okay.

If anything hurts DA:I's sales, it will be things like the rep it will carry from DA2 and ME3.  It won't be a marketing campaign that shows off female characters along side Generic White Human Male with a bit of stubble (because let's be real, he's not going away).

Most of us would prefer one without a protagonist, like DA:O, given that this is an RPG and is supposed to be about shaping our own character.

That doesn't Fight The Power enough though.

I get the sense Melca36 is one of those guys/girls who joins a server and is like "Hey everybody I'm a girl!" just to generate a reaction that they can use.

I'd like to know where all these "47%" female gamers are in my area 'cause I can't recall the last time I walked into a gamestop or the gaming section of best buy and saw a dame that wasn't a mother with her little boy.
