The ME games are so much about building relations...making friendships and taking care of these friendships...

Love interest are a sort of "cheap thrill" - as it seems very linear - but then again - we're not playing the Sims here Image IPB

Now I was wondering - Offspring.

Shepard's son or daughter?
Impact on story...
Plot opportunities for post mortem ME3?

What do you think? Good Idea? Bad Idea? Will it happen?

Maybe in the ending of Mass Effect 3 or something, but I doubt it happening in gameplay itself.

A signifigant amount of time would have to pass between Mass Effect 2 and 3 for offspring to have major impact on the story... Unless a baby is somehow incorporated into the plot or just present for kicks and giggles. I guess they could do something with that.

It's interesting idea, but in my opinion it might ruin the flow of the trilogy. I don't want Mass Effect 3 to open with "20 years later..."

It's a good idea and i can already picture it in my head:

****at the beginning of Mass Effect 2****

*Shepard and Garrus approach lonely child*
Shep: Hi, i'm your father
Child: My father's dead
Shep: I'm not
Child: Mommy, mommy i'm seeing dead people *pulls out a shotgun and shoots Shep in the head*
Garrus: So children what did we learn today...CONDOMS CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE!!!!

Sorry i just couldn't restrain myself :D

Oh well that's just crack me up

Thought gameplay wise they would be major difference between how Fem-Sheppard know she's pregnant compare to how Male Sheppard would end up knowing it

Pregnancy test mini-game anyone?

if you're playing male Shepard you'd have to get a little girl and spoil her

can you imagine show & tell at school?

Shep: "This is an Alliance standard issue assault rifle"

lilSheppy *hurling melon onto the table*: "and this is the head of the guy who took my lunch money"

Shep: *fires AR at melon*

kiddies sitting in first row *get covered in melon splatter*

Renegade Shepard + a kid = epic lolz.

Anyway, no kids please. I hate kids, I don't want them to ruin my games.

Seems like having a kid would be a little irresponsible when one is on the way to a suicide mission.

Yeah, and frankly, a kid wouldn't affect the storyline much anyway. Since, I doubt the time between games will be more than a few years tops, even if someone got pregnant from the single romance in ME1, that would put your child at a max of between 6 and 10 by ME3.

Furthermore, children would complicate the game too much I'd think. I mean, they may enter as a morale choice, kind of like it did in DAO, but I dont think we'll actually see a child in the game.

Well storyline wise I think we could expect that a female LI could be pregnant more than actually seeing a kid running around, still I think if it was an inevitable plot point it would make too much difference between Male and Female Sheppard

if they do have shep have a kid, I'm pretty sure it will only be in the ending movie of ME3, childrearing isn't something most games deal with

for good reason, unless it's a main focus of the game, which I wouldn't like in ME, it generally sucks

I don't know; personally I think that once a group releases a "best of", they've pretty much admited they don't have anything worthwhile to contribute anymore.

Oh, wait, we're talking about underdeveloped humans....

I'm pretty sure that by the year 2183, we'll have developed some pretty surefire contraceptives, and hopefully have made some strides towards eliminating the ignorance that inspires people to avoid using such except when their specific intent is the manufacture of children.

Of coure, that wouldn't really work with the asari would it? Although, any asari child we'll likely still be in it's larval stage until sometime after Shepard has shuffled off his mortal coil, so no problems there.

Though I agree that it wouldn't make much sense in the story, you got to admit that the image of Shepard, either rubbing his pregnant love interest's belly or herself being pregnant, is actually very cute.

Well they had one kid in Dragon Age : Origin and it turned out pretty well at least on a storytelling level

I hope that something like this does occur somewhere in the Mass Effect trilogy. I've had it with these One Night Stands.

That's something I liked about the Baldur's Gate 2 romances. The sex scene wasn't the end of the romance, or the goal of it. You could actually marry the partner in question and have a life together.

Might be nice if your rewarded if you stick with the LI's from the first game with a kid at the very end of the game or something.

Offspring? Oh yeah, I am dying to see half-Drell

Please, leave Sheprad's potential children out of ME :)
