**edit: even if I keep Shepard alive with enough ems and galactic readiness?

No he doesn't live. If a 5 second clip of someone taking a breath under a pile of rubble means they live, then i call bullsh*t. Either make a sequel with Shepard in it, or give is a proper scene where shepard reunites with his crew (MEHEM ftw).
Otherwise, yes shepard is dead to me
As far as I know, he's flagged as being alive in the script in that particular ending. But it's essentially supposed to be an open ending.RZIBARA wrote...

So because you don't want Shepard to be alive then Shepard is dead, and because he wants Shepard alive then Shepard is alive? Neither are confirmed, so both of you believe what you want because neither will convince the other.
It's supposed to be open and serve as a base for headcannon. I don't like it either, just have to accept what's there.RZIBARA wrote...

which is why he's basically dead. If there's no scene of him reuniting, and there's no plan to make a sequel, He's basically dead.

no thank you. I'll accept what I see, and that's about it. Head cannon to me is pointless. Especially something like that. I dont want to have to imagine something like that, I want to actually see it. which is why its bullshit.

It needs to be open for speculation so you can decide what happens next, since not everyone would want the same epilogue of what happened after they found Shepard, although I do agree that there could have been more to the breath scene.

Common sense 101: If Bioware had intended for high EMS to result in Shepard's death then they would not have made a clip of him alive.
Even if Shepard is never shown again in the MEEU then it still allows for canon-compliant headcanon.

Yeah and if making Anderson a Councilor wasn't meant to be significant, they never would have showed him making a big heroic speech at the end of ME1.
Wait...

If they had intended that Shepard is alive they'd have shown something that requires more than second-guessing the writers and scenes that only tell you anything because they wouldn't be in otherwise, not because of their content. And if it's about "headcanon what you like" (even though you can get unambiguously dead if you want) then that's just hopeless. Hand a key issue, the fate of the protagonist, over to fanfic?AlexMBrennan wrote...

Im almost 100% certain most of the players would prefer i scene with shepard reuniting with the crew and LI. Why do you think MEHEM is so popular (and if I remember correctly everyone gets the same epilogue)? People who would be pissed about getting this type of scene would be simply complaining for the sake of complaining

Yeah MEHEM shows how it is perfectly possible to have a memorial with Live Shep present which provides rewarding/satisfying content instead of insulting content like the breath scene being left tagged on the end.
