QFT, because if you pug Platinum it's very possible that's what it'll turn into if you're not picky in the lobby. It's the main reason why most BSN'ers play Platinum with friends that we know can help carry the load.

Unfortunately, most Platinum lobbies are either glitchers, Rio/Giant campers or relatively inexperienced players who should be playing a lower difficulty.

Ain't nothing wrong with farming Giant/Rio.

Yes there is.

Don't pug it. Fill your list with people who are willing to play plat regularly with you. Plat pugs in my experience either do Rio or Giant. Rarely will venture in other maps and if they do, I'm willing to bet there's at least one missile glitcher in the lobby.

I have a plat pug story. It was right around when the Geth Trooper came out. Was testing out the no HM build, I essentially might as well been soloing the whole thing cause my other teammates were using the cursed box of shame. Three bloody biotics using the box. Now that's humiliating. By the time we got to wave 10, we got an escort. Only one teammate who was an Asari (don't remember if it was the vanguard or the vanilla AA), was smart enough to come out and help me with it. We got to the middle, but got sandwiched between a drone and a prime. I had no gels at this point, the asari teammate who helped me tried to missile nuke but got effed over on the spawns. I bailed as soon as the match ended. We didn't complete the objective sad to say. So yeah, I bailed as quickly as I could. Didn't feel like going through that again.

Platinum pugs...where to begin...

First of all, you have to be an expert soloer on platinum difficulty. If you aren't able to consistently solo platinum, I strongly advise you not to play platinum pugs. Platinum pugs invariably end when you run out of gels or get insta killed. The only way you will reach extraction is if you are able to solo every single wave by yourself and do all the work.

If you can solo platinum: platinum pugs will be 60 minute games where you end up with a score of 300k and the rest of the team ends up with a combined score of less than 100k.

The horror stories are certainly justified. And gold pugs are actually just as bad as platinum pugs, there isn't much difference despite what you might hear.

Nearly all the players you find in platinum pugs don't use weapon mods, equipment, gear bonuses, medi gels or rockets. Most platinum players only have a few hours of game time played and instead of playing on bronze, they jump into platinum right from the very start, being completely and utterly unfamiliar with the game.

So there it is...you can either expect 2-wave games or 60 minute solos.

Tried to PUG some plat last night. Nothing but glitchers and scrubs with avenger III. Only played one good game with competent players. But sometimes you win the PUG lottery and get Max Dmian and another SPECTRE in the lobby. Those were fun games. And humbly. Reminded me how much of a scrub I am.

In my experience, it's very rare to find pugs who are good enough to be able to complete games on reapers rio or giant. Most giant/rio lobbies have players not using any weapon mods or equipment. So it's pretty much either going to be a solo or a wave 2 death.

And why do pugs think Rio is an easy map? It baffles me, it's one of the harder maps, I can think of quite a few maps which are easier than Rio.

The box. They stay in there with a volus spamming shield boost.

I've done a few pugs (pc) and had some really good games with competent players which made the less good games worth it. Just give it a go and form your own experiences.

(edit) Whelp, that's annoying

The box on Rio is real annoying, but most every game I've had on Giant, the pugs didn't just camp in the corner. I don't see what's wrong with that.

Giant, no. Rio, yes.

Giant is smooth, faster paced games... A worthy farm. Rio games are longer, with longer objectives, a more lame strategy and no plan B.

Most of my platinum games have been PUGs. Choose your lobby well and come prepared.

Some plat games are accidental. I join on gold, the host decides after a round that they like way the team is gelling and switches to platinum.

Pugs in platinum are better than gold pugs. Not even pulling your leg. I played pug plat for weeks and didn't have problems

Hit or miss man, hit or miss. Mostly miss.

Since all my friends that once played do not play anymore. And the next group of friends that once played do not play anymore, I find myself puggin it up almost exclusively. That said, I tend to mostly do gold due to the ability to solo if all goes wrong (mostly... depends on kit, map, enemy), being able to fly solo rambo style if I so desire to break away, and just simply personally finding gold just generally more fun all around.

However there are times when that random gold pug returns back to lobby and because it was so good so smooth and through unspoken gameplay during the match we just meshed well (powers, revives, covering one another, doing objectives, not being stingy on equip both in lobby and in game, etc) the game switches over to plat --- and we're off again.

USUSALLY those pre screen gold type matches that switch to plat are the most rewarding type PUGs. Randomly looking for a plat PUG is mostly akin to... oh whats that game... pin the tail on the donkey. Blindfolded, spun around, and let loose.

that depends on your skill, if you are good and able to carry others you will do great, if you are not so good then you will fail

Platinum PUG is OK, I do it all the time.
But here are some choices you should consider:

1. You could land mid game or get a choice to leave the lobby. My approach is to equip in advance to be ready for anything.

2. In the lobby you can choose to stay or leave:
2.1 check for (another) high challenge points player - to watch each others backs in the game
2.2 Jugs are always welcome. If you are not one, plan to stay behind that guy and revive him.
2.3 if not 2.1 or 2.2, better leave now.

3. Few maps are more frequent:
- Rio, not so much lately, usually not very competent players, takes an awful long time
- Giant (Giant hazard with more grenades) - most average players manage this good
- Glacier - for people in a hurry, high chance of missiles glitchers.
- White - sometimes, not very popular anymore

Other maps are hard to find in random search, but come with a higher chance of competent players.
Most common enemy is Reapers (for random search), Cerberus is OK, Geth has higher risk of failures, Collector the highest.
