Not really painful, you just sit back and relax while the destroyer missi... oh wait.
How painful is Platinum if you only pug?

You should get a fair idea of how it will go from looking at team mates kits/loadouts in the lobby.
In any case there is no great penalty involved in wiping out on Platinum other than loss of good consumables so give it a run and have some fun.

(probably) depends on time when you check by:
during morning (CET) gold & plat seem to be fine
on noon gold, silver
afternoon to evening mostly gold & silver
evening to night: plat is on
you however have to be lucky: sometimes I have to wait for a long time to get a good to exceptional pug match (best ones usually are early evening to after midnight - to morning
)
been there - tried every possible time ^^
mostly it's ok^

I pug plat on pc all the time.
Sometimes you wipe, sometimes it gets a bit hectic, sometimes it's good and
Sometimes the team you have doubts about surprises you.
It is what it is, a pug

It's not that bad, OP. Just make sure you're prepared. It's much harder than a Plat game with friends. You can only somewhat force spawns, and you can't rely on a revive if you go down.
In fact, don't rely on any of them and you'll be fine. Any help should be considered a bonus.
98% of my games are Plat pugs.

Depends on your skill level. And also on how picky you are. For me, I generally wait until I see at least one other decent player in the lobby. Or if I feel in the mood to be overpowered, I'll even carry three N7 1's.

Yeah, there's a lot of Giant when you pug platinum - even more than Rio. If you don't mind that, then the mission success rate is sky high (because camping Giant is the easiest thing you can ever do in this game).
Other things I've noticed in platinum pugs: lots of juggernauts and lots of camping even on other maps.
