I think this would be the answer. You could just make different kinds of locked chests that only a certain class can open(ie. a "reinforced chest" for warriors and a "Warded chest" for mages). You could keep rogues as the only class that can pick locks, but maybe warriors can bash open some doors that can't be picked and mages could find hidden doors and chests.

Really? Bioware kind of already had that idea when you had to go through the Fade for the Mage tower quest in Origins. You had to be in Spirit form to see and use the spirit door and to use some of the chests, you had to be in Burning man form to go through fiery areas, be a golem to bash through massive doors, etc. It's not really a new idea for Bioware, but it's an idea that could be implemented for classes in a different way, if they wanted to go that route.
