ME3 was a decent enough successor up through Priority Earth where it was a letdown.

This kinda sums it up for me.

Except the Rannoch arc was a bit of a letdown for me personally because of the way the Geth were ultimately handled.

Yeah, OP, that statement is totally correct. If one was to "save" the Mass Effect series they'd have to go all the way back to the very early planning stages of Mass Effect 2, with pretty much everything beyond the orginal game and the Revelation novel being invalidated.

As long as we're fantasizing, I'd go back to ME1 and come up with a sensible Reaper plan.

I'm not fantasizing, I'm just merely pointing out the obvious.

ME3 had its moments but after the ending one of my thoughts was "I wish i never played this game."
In ME2 I never had this thought.

Both games are done impressively well...for me i'd give ME2 the slight edge...because it had a better cast of characters and it was interesting to see the statements made by certain characters when you took them on certain missions...the characters loyalty missions were interesting and fun to engage as well.

The suicide mission really had me working to get the best possible teammate for each scenario...on my first playthrough i tried desperately not to get anybody killed...really intense towards the end there and very climatic.

ME3 was great as well and it did a very good job of connecting your decisions that was made in ME2 and it also conveyed a deep sense of dread and hopelessness...at times i felt that anything shepard was doing wasn't going to affect the outcome at all, and seeing those reapers land on earth in the beginning truly felt like it was the end...i think the EC endings improved the original endings, but i still felt they could've came up with a better send-off for shepards trilogy...

Lastly i thought Ashley, Liara and that other guy was incredibly boring...the only folks i took on missions with me was EDI and Garrus...

Sounds like hyperbole to me.

Honest answer, I loved ME3 up until the ending completely derailed everything I loved about the narrative and had me pulling out my hair watching my favorite video game series trainwreck.  Not everyone experienced it that way (some people genuinely enjoy the ending and I respect that), but it still stands out as one of my most frustrating moments every in video gaming.

When I first played me2 I didnt think I'd ever enjoy a game as much as I had enjoyed me2. Then me3 came along and I loved me3 even more despite all its flaws.

Now I really want to play SRIV. :D

Mass Effect just begs to be parodied. The first game went over pretty well for me. I think it was the atmosphere and the lore, not well implemented but at least there. There was the usual video game idiocy and some repetition and frustration but I managed just fine. I really think it was the atmosphere and the look.

And three badly justified squadmates were easier to ignore than ten. Then came ME2 and it was like 90 percent of an outragously dumb/shallow/silly/childish action movie with 10 percent good ideas. The 10 per cent were probably L'Étoile's work.

And every time someone praises the characterization in ME2 an angels dies. Seriously, a bunch of arbitrarily diverse superhero archetypes with way too much screentime, slapped on to diguise a very weak plot.

ME3 was just a natural consequence of this. The attempt to quickly put a derailed train back on track before anyone would notice.

Which three? The Asari grad student and the Quarian teenager were rather forced.

As for parody given how pretentious the series got by the third game, it would be well deserved.

Characterization, you say? Oh, I know someone on here who a stickler for characterization particularly when it comes to the female characters.

I like the very moronic implication that parady of work is somehow a sign of the work's low quality when the opposite is generally true. Or perhaps kalrabella is clueless of the differences between parady and satire? Wouldn't surprise me an iota.

Speak of the devil.

Here he is, klarabella, in all his heroic glory. Behold the heroic messiah!

You could've just said that that parody is a form of flattery, but I guess that just doesn't have enough bite.

I think the ME series died after discovering the Prothean Beacon on Eden Prime.

I'm just that cool and bitter.

Angels?

Aren't kittens good enough sacrifices for you? Why do you have to be different?

(For the record, Saints Row is absoutely a parady and absolutely not a satire.)

By the way, who is kalrabella? Is she klarabella's evil twin? And what is a "parady"? Is that by chance something similar to a parody?

I loved ME 3 right up until I was suddenly friends with Vega and had no idea who he was, then Shep started autodialoguing with Anderson in the hallway. Then everything changed when the reaper nation attacked.

Yay for eight pages of a thread like this. Yay for me merrily contributing to the effort as well.

edit: Ironically, this making it nine pages.
