Sarcastic FemHawke was the most tolerable among tones in DA2, but it was still bad. MaleHawke was as emotional as robot. Do not want.

I just love when Hawke laughs at their own jokes and everyone else just facepalms.

"I only wear dresses absoulutely Festooned with ruffles"

"Looks like they took him to some hole in the Wounded Coast. I wonder if
that's near the Injured Cliffs, or the Limping Hills, Massive Head
Trauma Bay? No, just me. Oh forget I said anything."

Sarcast-Hawke seems to have a particular weakness for puns.

Sarcastic Hawke was an utterly intolerable unfunny douchebag, but they were still far better than Brick Hawke, or Angst Hawke.

Couldn't you just...not pick the sarcastic option in that particular instance?

I loved sarcastic Hawke.  Even though I replay RPGs multiple times, I've never played the game more than once with the same character.  But I think I might have to replay my canon (sarcastic) Hawke, making the same choices of course.  He's my favorite protagonist in a BioWare game ever.  The game acknowledges that some of his jokes are dumb (or sometimes inappropriate), so the times when Hawke laughs at his own jokes only endear him to me more.

I really don't understand why people are surprised that the sarcastic options after mumzy's death are callous. I mean, really? :?

Sarcastic Hawke was one of my favourite things about DA2.

"At least things can't get worse. Today, anyway. I mean, it's pretty late."

Almost half of my Hawkes have been Sarcastic Mages. I only hope that Sarcastic Inquisitor can achieve the same heights.

i always played my sarcastic hawke as the type to use humor as a coping mechanism and charm to disarm people and make him harder to read. he makes jokes and plays like he doesn't take anything seriously because its easier than actually fully accepting how ****ty his situation becomes. so that always made sense to me and worked pretty well from a roleplaying standpoint.

I'm definitely a fan of sarcasm, or just being a blunt smart ass. But I just didn't care for "Sarcastic" Hawke at the best of times in DA: 2. I simply was put off, and sometimes just a little disturbed by what he would say. I'm all for the sarcastic behavior returning, but I want something with more taste.

This, basically. The problem with a constant 'humor dialoge' button, is that there are times when a joke isn't called for. Or it falls completely flat due to the situation.
Makes the main character seem like a douche sometimes. I was a fan of goodhearted Hawke, so maybe my place isn't in the thread in the first place.
Really all I can do is hope they make them more tasteful, the jokes, then I'll play a sarcastic playthrough... With some goodhearted mixed in.

See, I used Sarcastic Hawk most of the time, but switched to Diplomatic when called for, like say when dealing with the viscount and his son. So basically when dealing with other peoples emotions I was diplomatic (unless a Joke could help), so too me having that option return would be a good thing.

Then again I'm a comic book fan so to me Sarcastic/Diplomatic Hawk comes of as DA 2 answer to Peter Parker.....which (now that I think about) fits considering both their lives turn to crap often despite their best efforts.

If anything, sarcastic Hawk reminds me more of the X-men's Iceman who also uses a humorist persona to hide his real emotions. Which has be highlighted recently in the comics.

But I digress. lol

I loved Snarky Hawke. Even the times when he could come off as a total douchenozzle just made me like him even more.

The way OTT Sarcastic options turn a serious fantasy RPG into a joke game is awesome. I want more games diluting their emotional weight with stupid dialogue options, it's so in keeping with the tone of RPGs, much like the kung-fu Darkspawn.

"Call of Dragon Age Effect 3 - just for laughs"

Can't wait!!

Reading this thread one would think that Bioware has never written a sarcastic/funny line ever before DA2.

They have a long track that goes back to BG ( as far as I know as I haven't played MDK or Shattered Steel ) so I wouldn't worry about sarcasm and humour appearing in the game.

Always loved that line. And the Aveline banter just after you leave the Chantry :

"It's pretty late... You ass..."

Obviously, i support Sarcastic Inquisitor. :innocent:

You know, there is a big difference between throwing sarcastic replies here and there, when it is appropriate, funny and writing sarcastic replies whole game. That's why most of sarcastic lines in DA2 sucked.

WTF?
No sarcasm?
I was somehow able to do without my fav BLACK/MORBID humor, but if sarcasm is out, how will I talk to people/npcs?
What else is there in DA without those? <_<

I can't believe no one has mentioned that ridiculous obscure monologue that only happens if you do Following the Qun alone and leave the Chantry with the sarcastic personality.

The fact that the jokes sometimes just uttelry fail adds to the character. Anyone trying to be funny all the time will be an insufferable ass.

Snarky Hawke with some situational diplomacy and aggression was the best Hawke.

Sarcasm should always be an option for quizzy.

"Not now Hawke."

 I love Sarcastic Hawke. My canon Hawke gets plenty of Diplomatic/Aggressive lines when called for, but her dominant personality is always sarcastic.

I love Sarcastic Hawke, but I couldn't imagine playing her with just *that* dialogue option all the time. It's funny how people critisise S.Hawke as if they were forced to go through that same option all the time.

This is why we have dialogue options. My S.Hawke has been one of my most enjoyable role-playing experiences along side the Exile (KOTOR2) and my Arcanum: OSAMO character.

All female :D though two of them were hard mother****ers. They wouldn't let a guy touch them if their life depended on it.

I loved snarky Hawke and chose those dialogues a good 95% of the time (in my primary playthrough, that is).

I think people who say "there is a time and place" for humor either 1) forgot that you're not obligated to choose the humorous responses EVERY time, or 2) are just missing the point. Part of being a realistic character is having flaws, and being an insensitive ass, using humor as a shield, etc. are part of that. Hawke saying "inappropriate" things was awesome and felt real.

So, yeah. I am all in favor of personalities coming back... especially snarky ones.

I really couldn't do any other tone than Snarky!Hawke. Sure, sometimes his jokes fall flat, and sometimes he throws out a really inappropriate one-liner, but that just makes him more of a distinct personality to me. Agressive and Diplomatic Hawkes just seem more like typical video game protagonists. Snarky Hawke seems like a person, reacting to the absolute craziness of his life. He can be charming, funny, and witty, but he can also be insensitive and callous, and all of it is just a mask he uses to keep the world at bay.
