You know,
all this excitement about DA III is kind of bothering me, as I gave up on the series after DA II. And it is not that I would NOT like to be hyped -- it's exactly the opposite -- but I just CAN'T get back into the world, I'm just stuck at the point in which even replaying DA:O or reading a DA book or comic makes so, so, so little sense that it's almost pointless, and I loved that game before DA II came in and ruined it -- everything about it -- for me. The same goes for my gf, who was truly dedicated fan of DA:O (and it was the ONLY game she ever played, as she despises them generally, not to mention that she is not fond of fantasy overall; so that means something.) So, I dunno, HELP ME, how can you be so excited about it? Cause I can't and can't and can't and the more screenshots and trailers and details surface the more afraid I am I'm not going to buy this game : / cause seriously, I know it was discussed over and over again, but the second installment really did kill all the magic, it really, really, really, really, really did, it ENDED it, simply put. (Even the menus in this game were so horrible, gawd.)

Because I liked both DAO and DA2. Odds are I will like DAI as well.

Because bioware makes great games, I've never not liked a game they made whic YES that includes me3 and da2. The ending sucked in the prior and the overall experience was much less then dao but I loved their games all the way through. This game has great promise and I hope it delivers. But to point out something. I can say for myself and myself only. My gf loved the games as well...but if you don't like it I'm sorry but it's mostly up to you to decide to get back into the game. No matter what we tell you will never trump how you feel in the end. Also not to be rude but I hope you don't get flanked for it but if it bothers you that people are excited....then maybe it's a good idea to get away from the scene mostly like the forums for the freaking game lol.

It is pretty pointless. You go on about how much you despise DA2 and how it killed the immersion and made you feel detached from the DA universe. So no matter what I or anyone say, you'll keep coming back to the same argument. Your thread is whining about a 3-year old game in disguise. Most have grown pretty tired of this by now. If you can't get yourself to like DA anymore, why bother at all? Move on.

Because I like what I see so far, you are right some people maybe over-hyping it and some could be under-hyping it. But it is a matter of perspective. I like what I've seen so far, and I personally think it will be a really good game.

To me dragon age 2 was a 8/10 game that I thought it was worth the money I bought it on day one but not as good as say Dragon Age Origins. The DLC from DA2 also gave me confidence in their abilities for making a really good Dragon Age game. So far the info given to us and shown already shows massive improvements from DAII such as the return of the tactical cam, customizing armors for companions & a bit of a slower paced combat. I however am not believing in their words such as "Choices will lock you out of content!" and such until I see the main game come out, so I'm just expecting what I've expected from previous bioware games.

edit: Also I can play as an elf again. YAY!~

Pretty much this.
I enjoyed and love both games. It's highly likely I'm going to love DAI.
The demo looks great and replayabled races and mounts are pretty exciting feature for me.

Most of the stuff they showed does make it look like a promising game. Though it looks like they're keeping some of the awesome buttoness that the last game had like the gate bashing and some of the attack animations. So that made me a hell of a lot less excited for this game. But i'm hoping that it remains a good game nonetheless.

No, this thread seems pretty pointless, what with you coming onto the DAI board and asking how people can be hyped for DAI. I'm going to assume the question in the OP is rhetorical, otherwise it's just kind of stupid.

Loved Dragon Age: origins, liked the parts that Dragon Age 2 did right, hopeful that Bioware has learned from its mistakes.

First: this deserves a lol.

Serious response: because the trailer looks good, they brought back player races , the pre-alpha gameplay already looks good, and I liked both DAO and DA2. Yet I'd hope that I'm not so crazy-ex-level invested that if the game series goes south, it will leave me awake at night with anxiety, or annoyed by others' enjoyment of something I don't enjoy anymore. There are other games.

Disliking DA2 is perfectly understandable. Saying that it permanently, irrevocably ended any possible interest regardless of future changes is weird. So why am I moderately excited? Because you're weird and I'm not.

To be honest, DA2 put me off the series for a long while too. I hadn't had any hope for (or interest in) DA:I until the recent footage and information came out. Now I'm cautiously optimistic about the idea of the game, but as with Mass Effect 3, will not be purchasing until it's been out at least a month and I can see what the gaming population actually thinks of it.

It's kind of sad that it's come to this - but I don't personally feel that there is any gaming company left which will satisfy me with every release, and thus make me feel safe in pre-ordering. Bioware and Blizzard used to be at the top of my list in that regard - I can safely say that I'm glad I have no idea how ME3 ended - from what I've heard, probably better for me to make up an ending in my own head based on ME1's plot than actually play the game/witness the horror.

Anyway - point is, judge an individual game on it's individual merits. A '2' (or any other link to a prior game) is no guarantee of quality or poorness. Plenty of bad games exist which have great sequels, and plenty of great games exist which were followed by awful sequels.

I loved DAO and I LOVED DA2. DAI looks promising. I don't expect to like every tiny little thing they do with it, but I am 95% confident that I will love 95% of the game. I have never been disapointed by a Bioware game, even if some have had quite a few blatant flaws. My overall gaming experience has been good or great.

It seems silly to say that DA2 completely and utterly destroyed all the ~magic~ of the series (and even whine about the interface which I personally find more intuitive than the DAO version). I mean, holy hyperbole Batman!

And being ~bothered~ that other people are excited about the game is absolutely LOLLERS. God forbid someone be excited by a franchise they enjoyed just because you personally hated DA2 like it was some kind of cheating lover who forever soured you on future relationships. Get a grip.

Edit: ME3's ridiculous ending (and ALL the other stupid **** in that game) is a much more disapointing denouement than anything done is DA2 in my personal opinion, and seemed to be that way among the forum as well, from what I personally witnessed, yet you're carrying that flag. Kind of bonkers to rag on DA2 when there's still that whole mess of a game.

Um, because I don't let one (not so bad in my opinion) instance put me off of an entire game franchise? lol

Let me turn this around, and ask you a question if I may- What about DA2 broke the DA universe for you? I get that people were annoyed about no race choices or reused environments or tacky wave combat or what have you, but the actual world itself didn't change. Thedas was still Thedas, the writing was still good, the companions were still interesting. The story was hit or miss, and I personally didn't care for it, but it wasn't badly done. What was so terrible that it fundamentally broke your enjoyment of the series?
