That said, theres no reason your distaste of DA 2 should effect your love of DA: O. After all, DA: O's story is very self contained and complete. I feel like the OP is being melodramatic.

You know,
all this excitement about DA III is kind of bothering me, as I gave up on the series after DA II. And it is not that I would NOT like to be hyped -- it's exactly the opposite -- but I just CAN'T get back into the world, I'm just stuck at the point in which even replaying DA:O or reading a DA book or comic makes so, so, so little sense that it's almost pointless, and I loved that game before DA II came in and ruined it -- everything about it -- for me. The same goes for my gf, who was truly dedicated fan of DA:O (and it was the ONLY game she ever played, as she despises them generally, not to mention that she is not fond of fantasy overall; so that means something.) So, I dunno, HELP ME, how can you be so excited about it? Cause I can't and can't and can't and the more screenshots and trailers and details surface the more afraid I am I'm not going to buy this game : / cause seriously, I know it was discussed over and over again, but the second installment really did kill all the magic, it really, really, really, really, really did, it ENDED it, simply put. (Even the menus in this game were so horrible, gawd.)
As far as i remember DAO doesnt have a single dialogue with 6 or more non investigative options that actually move the conversation forward, and since im playing the game as i type this, i remember pretty wellPakundo wrote...
Maybe because I'm a late newcomer to the series, I always knew to expect DA2 to be a very different game from DA:O, so when I went in and played it, I did so without any expectation at all.
Sure, DA2 was certainly... Different when compared to DA:O, it had its own strengths, its own good points.
And it didn't really damage the Dragon Age series for me at all.
Besides, I know now that Inquisition will bring back a sense of scale that even eclipses that of Origins, which is a plus!
The only thing I'm not eagerly expecting, though, is the return of the dialogue wheel.
Sure, it fit Mass Effect well enough (it was DESIGNED for it, after all), but after playing Origins, 6 dialogue options at most feels a bit constrictive.

Because I liked both DAO and DA2. Odds are I will like DAI as well.

That would be cool. I am only two thirds through the first book yet, but it seems very promising so far. Cool setting.

10 books total from Erikson an they just keep getting better,Esselmont has started his side of the stories now an currently there is 3 from him an again they just get better, it is by far the best fantasy i have read in years and the only series of that length that has kept me engrossed and wanting more, i tried song of ice an fire an got bored at book 4 and tried the wheel of time series an gave up on book 3 of that with boredom aswell

I keep my expectations reasonable though. Crushing disappointment can ruin even an amazing experience because you built it too high. Like I did with Oblivion. I figured that game would just be everything Morrowind was + everything I wanted Morrowind to be... And unfairly though it was pretty lame when it failed to meet those unreasonable standards. I've grown since then. (See: Cynical)
Skyrim failed too, at least according to many Bethesda Community Discussion posters.
For me, it fixed some things and broke others.
DAI could end up doing the same for its franchise.

I bought all of the malazan books in one go, including Esselmont`s books. I needed something huge after I finished reading the wheel of time. The wheel of time does have a few less "actiony" books in mid series, though. But its all important in the final books.
