I liked DA 2. Not as much as DA: O perhaps but I liked it enough to play it multiple times. That said, DA: I looks to be moving back in the right direction. My main grips with DA 2 are the lack of variety in environments and enemy spawning encounters. DA: I looks to be addressing this while adding in a lot more impactful choices for us to make which I consider a bonus rather than a necessity. (I play plenty of JRPGs so linear stories don't bug me one bit)

That said, theres no reason your distaste of DA 2 should effect your love of DA: O. After all, DA: O's story is very self contained and complete. I feel like the OP is being melodramatic.

You know,
all this excitement about DA III is kind of bothering me, as I gave up on the series after DA II. And it is not that I would NOT like to be hyped -- it's exactly the opposite -- but I just CAN'T get back into the world, I'm just stuck at the point in which even replaying DA:O or reading a DA book or comic makes so, so, so little sense that it's almost pointless, and I loved that game before DA II came in and ruined it -- everything about it -- for me. The same goes for my gf, who was truly dedicated fan of DA:O (and it was the ONLY game she ever played, as she despises them generally, not to mention that she is not fond of fantasy overall; so that means something.) So, I dunno, HELP ME, how can you be so excited about it? Cause I can't and can't and can't and the more screenshots and trailers and details surface the more afraid I am I'm not going to buy this game : / cause seriously, I know it was discussed over and over again, but the second installment really did kill all the magic, it really, really, really, really, really did, it ENDED it, simply put. (Even the menus in this game were so horrible, gawd.)

Not everyone hated DA2.

Was it as good as Origins? No. But it was still a very solid game with some really good characters.

I'm doing some serious expectation management. I really don't want to feel "ugh.. so disappointed" at a game again so it's me trying to keep it all reasonable. I hear/read something awesome from the devs i can get a bit excited but that's now always followed by me questioning if it will really be like that or good as they say. Done this for over a year now and so far no disappointments and plenty of pleasant suprises

Maybe because I'm a late newcomer to the series, I always knew to expect DA2 to be a very different game from DA:O, so when I went in and played it, I did so without any expectation at all.
Sure, DA2 was certainly... Different when compared to DA:O, it had its own strengths, its own good points.

And it didn't really damage the Dragon Age series for me at all.
Besides, I know now that Inquisition will bring back a sense of scale that even eclipses that of Origins, which is a plus!
The only thing I'm not eagerly expecting, though, is the return of the dialogue wheel.
Sure, it fit Mass Effect well enough (it was DESIGNED for it, after all), but after playing Origins, 6 dialogue options at most feels a bit constrictive
.

As far as i remember DAO doesnt have a single dialogue with 6 or more non investigative options that actually move the conversation forward, and since im playing the game as i type this, i remember pretty well

It is ironic that one of developers compares DAI with Rome 2: Total War, considering ****storm engulfing Creative Assembly because of RTW2.

Not really hyped. More that I like what I have seen so far and that I'm looking forward to the game.

DA2 is the only game I've legitimately hated, so it's testament to the great work the Dragon Age team are doing with Inquisition, that I currently cant wait to get my hands on the game. That may change between now and launch but - to answer the OP - it's what Bioware are showing us that has me 'hyped'. Long may it continue!

I do not purchase every CRPG that hits the market, so I try and acquire games that avoid pet peeves and allows for high replay value. The DA series fulfills this for me for the most part. I have hundred of hours in both the previous games, and expect to have even more based on the reveals made thus far.

I am allways hyped about upcoming rpgs. Just they way i am wired. There are alot of interesting rpgs coming out next year: Project Eternity, Dragon Age 3, The planescape sequel, and many others. My social life will take a dive.

What the Volus said.

Also, OP, if you're bothered by the DA hype, mayhap you should avoid the DA forum? Image IPB

That would be cool. I am only two thirds through the first book yet, but it seems very promising so far. Cool setting.

Also because they can make great games. This one interest me, and I like to hear what they say, as well as hear what other people are hoping for.

I've been playing Skyrim since it came out in Nov '11, but I have a couple of games started in DAO and DA2 which I know I will go back to eventually because I enjoy both of them and don't I buy a lot of games. Haven't played any of the ME series in a while either, but I did enjoy them until the ME3 ending and I hope DA3 will be as enjoyable as the first two DA games.

So I'm highly interested in what the DAI has going on and this is the place to find out.

Hard to believe, but a few of us might have liked DA2 more than DAO. Or at least didn't enter a state of crushing despair and melodrama afterwards.

Hyped isn't a word i'd use. I approach the series again on a very cautious note. Especially after the way that DA2 was left.

I bought all of the malazan books in one go, including Esselmont`s books. I needed something huge after I finished reading the wheel of time. The wheel of time does have a few less "actiony" books in mid series, though. But its all important in the final books.

I keep my expectations reasonable though. Crushing disappointment can ruin even an amazing experience because you built it too high. Like I did with Oblivion. I figured that game would just be everything Morrowind was + everything I wanted Morrowind to be... And unfairly though it was pretty lame when it failed to meet those unreasonable standards. I've grown since then. (See: Cynical)

Skyrim failed too, at least according to many Bethesda Community Discussion posters.

For me, it fixed some things and broke others.

DAI could end up doing the same for its franchise.

And I'm still playing skyrim and I am enjoying it.  Actually have a game going on the 360 and a game on the PC.  I'll probably never finish the one on the Pc because I'm too involved in being a Bard or doing the many things I enjoy with mods.  The 360 I'll eventually finish but will play it in the future.

Yes, for me it fixed some things and broke others.  I miss the old thief's guild and other small things that made Morrowind so much fun.  But I did enjoy them both.

My problem with that particular series was each book i read just seemed to be the exact same story as the last, i felt i was reading the same thing but with different names, maybe it changed i dont know i wasnt willing to go through more books to find out tbh

Love the series. Nothing more should be said.
