So now with DA:I introducing horses, will darkspawn have mounts? It seems like they'd be basically cavalry fodder otherwise in a pitched engagement.

What would they ride? Brontos? Their presence kills all living things.

The darkspawn can afford pretty major casaulties, and magic and ogres negate most of the advantages of cavalry.

The dark spawn will be our mounts and they will give us piggy back rides to our destination

Blight wolves, for example.

The Darkspawn have brontos and blighted animals.

Blight wolves are a bit too small to carry a hurlock or even a genlock.

The lack of mounts seems to be a weakness of the darkspawn, but they have advantages humans do not. They don't need to eat or sleep, so they can carry on a siege indefinitely, and they seem quite adept at tunneling beneath the ground.

But ghouls tend to die sooner rather than later. Also, they're really spiky.

Darkspawn may very well have a process for making Bronto Broodmothers, as well. We just haven't seen them for the same reason we haven't seen horses yet.

Edit: Tamlen didn't become a Shriek, that's what I get for a crappy memory.

The codex on ghouls states they don't survive long.

The Codex also didn't even know Broodmothers existed before the Warden delved into the Deep Roads. Broodmothers are ghouls. Tamlen lived long enough to be useful as a ghoul.

Ghouls don't live long by themselves, the Darkspawn however can keep them alive long enough to be useful.

It seems that if the darkspawn specifically mold something with the taint, it lasts some time as it is nothing like it was before, while just being infected and going crazy and then just a labor force for darkspawn would cause a shorter lifespan.

I would assume blight horses, brontos, spiders?, or they may not make any use of mounts and just overwhelm with raw numbers, and it didn't look like they actually tire since they are constantly active in digging or fighting or patrolling.

Topic title gave me the mental image of the Inquisitor riding on a Hurlock's shoulders. :P

Maybe they like to ride Bereskarns...

Since they are pouring out from the Deep Road, couldn't they ride the nugs? Bioware kinda hinted at it when the release a picture of a nug on the aboveground.

It's difficult to get attention with thread titles. Sometimes you have to get... creative.

Corrupted giant spiders most likely. The blighted wolves are too small and the Deep Roads is just swarming with spiders.

Genlocks are rather large after their DA2 remake. They can ride them I suppose.

Brontos are Dwarven mounts, not Darkspawn mounts. :D

Most are in a wild state, though the Dwarves retain some.
