It looks like if there's one thing that persistently connects many of the squaddies in Mass Effect 1 and 2, it's the abundance of daddy issues the entire cast has. It feels like everyone has issues with their dad's. So lets make a thread about it. Oh, and a poll! (ok, so this is just my clever attempt to try out the poll function... sue me)
http://social.biowar...685/polls/1252/
Ashley - Daddy issues extend past her immediate family to her grandfather who is widely blamed for screwing the pooch at Shanxi and brought huge dishonor among her family. Her father spent his entire life trying to clean the mud from the family name, but died early on and all the stigma of her grandfather is now squarely on Ashley's shoulders.
Tali - Tali's dad is practically royalty in Quarian society by being the head of the admiralty board. There are huge expectations for her pilgrimmage. Who knows how her father is going to react to her eventual exile from the Quarian people in ME2?
Garrus - Garrus has a very strict father who is quite disapproving of the Specters despite Garrus wanting to become one. It's obvious that Garrus' father pushed him very hard to get into C-Sec and despite Garrus chafing hard against regulations and restrictions, he stays there out of respect for his father. Until Shepard comes along that is...
Liara - Liara, being an Asari born between two other Asari, obviously makes her father issues quite a bit more complicated. One one hand, one of her birth parents was Benezia, whom she had to aid Shepard in tracking down and eventually killing. On the other hand, her other birth parent (whom she seems to consider her "real father") is unknown to her and is a cause of great distress.
Wrex - Wrex and his father have a rather sordid history based on their very different ideas on what is best for Krogan society. This came to a head when Wrex and his father met at the Krogan burial grounds and his father staged a surprise attack on his son, an attack which ended in Wrex killing his father. Wrex, for his part, seems to have no lingering regrets on the matter.
Miranda - Her dad genetically engineered her to be perfect in every way. However, Miranda obviously has serious abandonment issues, as no one really values her for whom she is, only what she is.
Suze - We don't know anything about her father... but god dang if those tattoos and punk attitude aren't trying to say something...
Which character in ME and ME2 has the biggest daddy issues?

I think that is because discussion of one's family is a natural way to build the character of NPCs. Its just a convenient mechanism for story-telling and role-playing.
For instance in DAO issues on parentage also play a large role in most characters. The PC warden's origin is based on his/her family, Morrigan's problems with mother, Alistair being a bastard, etc etc...

You know I never really thought about everyone's daddy issues. Ash's and Miranda's are pretty obvious, but holy crap. How could I not have paid any attention to everyone else's issues. Even Kaidan had dad issues! Ha!

I wonder what legions daddy issues would be:blink:
Maybe reapers wouldn't let him stay out late, or maybe a geth colossus wouldn't give legion it's blessing before his wedding... hmmm

Looks like projection to me, maybe the lead writers need them some therapy =p.

Jacob certainly has some major daddy issue. Look what his loyalty achievement is called!

Tali has daddy issues clearly, she tries to prove herself to her father but is a failure and exiled.

Wrex has the worst of it. Definitely.
I mean, who else has to slot his own parent?

Shepard will have daddy issues - his parent will keep appearing as a manifestation as the islands conciousness. He'll be Christian Shepard!

They are all quite different. Liara has at least the advantage of not knowing what she is missing. It is definitely a bad position she is in but not the worst.
Tali... well I don't see it as a particularly bad position, I imagine that she can get a lot of advantages out of it as well.. lastly I think her pilgrimage is no problem stopping Saren and gaining that Geth data and all.
Garrus just has a father that disagrees. Not too bad, not too great. Nothing that special.
Subject Zero... well we don't know. For all we know her father was the only one nice to her.
Seems I left out Ashley. It's a bad position she is in for sure, but her father did nothing wrong. She probably bears no grudges against him either and I wouldn't see her having trouble with her father. It's more trouble with the alliance.
Wrex. This is a bad case, his father tried to assassinate him for starters. He might not have too much regret over it but he definitely wins as one of the worst parents. I am not going to pick him though... instead...
Miranda. A father that wants you to be perfect in everyway seems fine, but once he starts genetically engineering you it gets a little odd. Not too bad though, he just wants the best with you I suppose. But judging by her mental condition I am going to say that she is quite scarred. Wrex probably had more of a hard time but doesn't seem too bothered with it whereas Miranda does a lot more. Hence my vote.
