Hi!

Doing a bit of creative writing got me to thinking about the old RPing days on the Battledale persistant server!

I roleplayed a host of characters, but mostly noteably Ferret Gonnffen, Feanor E'alith and the fairly infamous Di'thang Muriir.

If any of the old Battledalers are on here, it'd be great to catch up - reply here, or better yet add my Steam "wytehawk". Also, would be especially keen to hear from anyone who can locate a local copy of the original Battledale module, just so i can fire it up locally for old time's sake!

Hope to hear from some of the old crew :)

Hello!

I remember those days rather fondly. I played the elusive Pupkin and the insufferable Ally Foley. Good times.

Incidentally I borrowed the name Di'thang for a villain in my PnP campaign last year.

Have any other old BDers come out of the woodwork?

I was a pretty insignificant figure back then, a barbarian dwarf named Ecthien, only think I got to around level 5-7 or so.  Still, it made a huge impression on me in my early teens, and to this day I remember it as one of the best gaming experiences I've had.  I would kill to play it again like it was.

Lots and Lots of memories where made on this server and its still sad that it shut down. Great great times where had there.

If you haven't already, send the OP a PM. I know I get an email when someone sends me a PM on this forum.

Looking to get this as well. I didn't realize people remembered it, much less had the resource on it. Hopefully somebody's reading this, I would kill to get the files for the server. I know some friends that I'd LOVE to set up a LAN party of this and roleplay through it, bit by bit.

Will be checking this thread from time to time as things go on, hoping to get a response! As a reference, I've been looking for a source for this for like.....years upon years after the server was shut down. Been craving it since then.

Also, JUST remembered. I was still new to roleplaying back then, but my character's name was Loran Karentos, or something akin to that. I may not have the spelling right, it's been a ridiculously long time.

Ah Battledale. Good times. My first PW and one of my fondest memories. Haven't ever found a place quite like it.

Battledale is one of the few PWs I still remember to this day.  Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I absolutely loved the system they had in place, and still remember the first time I made it to the Shrine of Gond to enchant a weapon.

Thirding the request for the module - if anyone still has a copy, I'd love to load it up for old times' sake.

Loved playing there too.  I did some GMing and much much more RPing back in the day.  It was a magical place.

Black Widow

Allowyne

(a host of less well know types)

Arelaer (my last real character)

Glad I stumbled on this thread.

I think it's just great that even after all these years people still have an interest in a game that's so old. I started playing that game at least 12 years ago.
Just shows how great of a game and how awesome the server was.
I still hope something similar comes along one day.

Definitely, I think it's something that will stay with everyone who experienced it for a long time.  Hopefully it will serve as inspiration for anyone who becomes/has become a developer.

As an aside, did you ever end up finding a copy of the module?

I have not. I have two other old computers and an external hard drive to check yet. Currently moving to a new state so not able to check for a little bit yet. I'm actually sitting in a motel room typing this out. Lol I hope to be fully moved in a month. Motel life is no fun at all. I've done it way to many times in my life.

Well I was only able to locate Battledale 2. It seems I don't have Pilgrims Rest or if I do it is buried someplace I haven't looked. Which also means the countless screenshots I took back then are MIA as well. Damn it all!!

Nice to see some familiar names on here.  Hi PDH!

I happen to have a copy of the BD1 module.  I guess I had friends in high places.

Looking back, it seems crazy, that there was a weekend in which I flew to Sweden to meet a dozen players from across Europe purely due to the very existence of this server.  But I guess that was a thing that happened, and is a testament to how strong a community was built around this (in hindsight) all too brief experience.

The more I think about it, the more it blows my mind.

Would either of you be willing to upload your copies to http://neverwintervault.org/? It would be nice to archive this work rather than let it disappear.  I'd personally like to just load the module up and take a look around for old times' sake.

Wow such a long time ago.  I just stumbled onto this post, it is nice to see some old names I remember from the BD days.

I played Vastan Aylomen, Celador Ashenfell and Diero Falcone over the two incarnations of BD and I DM'd a little on BD2.  So nice to see some other people remember it fondly too.

I don't think I kept anything sadly, no screenshots, none of my old stories from the forums or anything, some great memories are all that are left.

Well, well, looky here...

Some of you might remember me as secretly-Talosian sorceress Elysiae Dathiir, morose cleric of the moon goddess Elvewyn or Loisur Stenesten, dwarven bard.

I also DM'd the place.

A true pleasure to hear from you all again :)

Battledale will always have a fond place in my heart.

Had some of my best role playing experiences on that server, and it left me with several friends I'm still happy to know to this day.

(Used to have quite a few screenshots from the server, but alas, disk failures have stolen them all away.)

Just checked this thread after a very long time and amazed to see all the names again! Pup! PDH! Paxi! Edd! Senkrad!

I'm so happy to see that BD had the same impact on so many people that it had on me. I too made some lifelong friends, one of whom moved country and now lives in the same city as me. We shared a house for a number of years and he's now one of my best friends.

I've often dreamed that somehow someday I'd stumble upon news of a Battledale Reunion and the server would go up (the original server, not that strange second one) one last time for everyone to log in, in-character, and enjoy a catch up around that campfire next to those training dummies.

So anyway, courtesy of one of our illustrious former DMs, my long searches led me to something I wanted to share with you all. I presume that nobody is going to mind me sharing this with you guys, I think at this point it is like public domain, belongs in a museum or something:-

Hope the link works for you all. So go get that NWN reinstalled and fire up some local servers. It's a beautiful sight after all these years, trust me :)

If you want to reach a wider audience with your module, you could upload it to the new NW Vault:
