But a long quality game is still better than a short quality game
At some point length just becomes obnoxious for most people. A kind of "no way, not happening" sort of reaction.

Its aslong as it takes you the gamer to complete
Arguably, it could be longer...?

I'm hoping about 15-25 hours of pure SP story and 50-100 hours with side content included. I've found that when games have a main story over 25 hours it almost always drags on and has major pacing problems.
I love stories that drag on.

Like maybe some time/distance on the world map some popup that states (2 weeks travel time to the desert) and some clues in the companion coversations like DAO sometimes had:
"So we've been traveling for months and..."
"Hard to believe we only met 2 weeks ago..."
"The veil tear only happened a month ago but it feels like ages..."

I don't. Makes me lose interest if I no longer care about what's going on. JRPGs are probably a prime example of what I'm talking about. Most are 40+ hour main stories and they just have so many hours they could've cut out the game and nobody would've cared.
I'm not sure how long DAO main story was but it probably wasn't close to 40 hours. It had pacing problems in a few areas though(alienage/deep roads/fade). Overall though, I'd say it was ok because the story was quality.
shorter game with a quality story >>>>>>>>> longer game with a boring story
I'm getting older now and I find myself looking at games that are shorter. When I start a family I'd imagine I'll want to play games even shorter. I think The Last of Us is a prime example of where I want a good story-driven game. That game was only about 15 hours and it was an incredible story.

Eww no. For an action game, sure. Not an RPG that only lasts 15 hours

Hi, good question OP, but can you be more specific? When the game comes out, are you going to do every single side quest? Or are you just going to speed run through the story?

20-30 hours is just right, including side quests. Quality>quantity for me.
There aren't many video games I enjoy playing. Maybe like 10 in the past 15 years.
So, if I'm getting a game I want to play..... 50+ hours.
Origins easily lasts me 40+ hours in one play.

Cameron Lee says it's impossible to complete everything in one playthrough.
Yeah they were talking about being able to close some doors for good. I think Mike Laidlaw said it was about a quater of the content that you wouldn't see.
I guess that's racial/class content, content based on in game choices and content based on the previous game choices/ the keep

Debatable. A big big part of JRPGs (at least the ones I've played) is character development, and it's really hard to speed that up skillfully. Expecially when it's for four, five, six characters.

Origins had tons of filller content that felt like a chore to finish eg. the fade and the deep roads.

You have multiple characters you can play as with multiple paths to follow during each gameplay session.
Gameplay length honestly depends on the player who is playing. You could finish a game in under 3 hours if you want to (look at all those speed run videos on youtube) or play for over 30 plus hours if you want to.

The majority of game play in jrpg's is grinding. And you don't need 40+ to do character growth. Heck, is doctor who can do it in an hour and then video game does not need 40+ hour to do character growth.EntropicAngel wrote...
