I'm expecting, and won't buy the game if I hear this isn't true, that Duncan is the Last Boss AND a Love Interest, and you defeat him through rough sex.
Good sir, you won the BSN today. Congratulations.

A brand new RPG from Bioware?. 'Dawn of the Duncan' allows you to catch up with the much loved and late Warden Commander, as he adjusts to life after death at Ostager as a member of the undead community of Thedas. Its got potential.EntropicAngel wrote...

I mean I have nothing against it but if you have to retcon someone's death I'd rather it be Duncan's

Because as of Ostagar he was already nearing his Calling.
It's been at least a decade since then...

As a Mentor to the PC in Origins, He is the only character to outrank the PC. So for the story that they wanted to tell it requires that he dies in order for the PC to take centre stage.crimzontearz wrote...

Even if he survived Ostagar he would still be dead by DAI since he was near his calling in DAO.crimzontearz wrote...

Also as House pointed out, Duncan was close to his Calling in DA:O. Even if he had survived DA:O, he'd be long dead by DA:I.

and that is somehow more realistic than Oghren coming back from exploding as a walking bomb??????Mr.House wrote...

Because even (the Madness of King) George Lucas didn't change Obi-Wan Kenobi turning in a Force Ghost in Star Wars. You simply can't retcon a death scene that awesome.
Duncan died the way he lived! Kicking a ton of ass, taking down Darkspawn left, right and centre, performing flying takedowns of Ogres whilst mortally wounded and finally taking an battleaxe to the face, going out the only way a badass like him could!
"They say that the Darkspawn needed a battleaxe because it was the only thing that could get past Duncan's beard".
"The Maker hasn't left the world, he's in hiding from Duncan".
"The Old God Child is actually Duncan's from beyond the grave. He's just that awesome".

Um Oggy could not die in DAO as far as I know, and even if he did how many times does it need to be said. THERE IS NO WALKING BOMB/DECAPITATION/WHATRVER flag. It's a "X was killed."crimzontearz wrote...

We didn't actually, the scene cut just before the axe came down, he could've moved.Xsari Rose wrote...
Um... What? We saw him get his head cut off by a darkspawn at Ostegar... Though Leliana survived a beheading so who knows...
I doubt he would have survived and hid out though, lettting the warden and Alistair do all that by themselves.

Gaider already confirmed he's dead and his role is over, and exactly how is supposed to have survived when his weapons were in the Orge that he killed, he could barely move due to him being hurt and exhausted and had a darkspawn charging at him with a 2 handed axe.
So? The writers seem to have no qualms with throwing logic out the window whenever it looks to inconvenience whatever contrived plot point they are trying justify at the time, why should it be any different for Duncan's survival?

Because Duncan would've been to his calling by now if he did survive

I fully expect that by Dragon Age 4, in the games, the books, or the comics, it will be revealed Duncan has a brother. And he will appear.
A twin brother, who resented looking like Duncan, no beard.
Duncan did have a twin. Malcolm Hawke was his long lost twin.
