I am also Australian. I don't ask non-white people to tell me about their 'home' country because chances are it's Australia.

The fact that we always seem to post at the same times should have told me that...

Anyway, I don't understand. The discussion of a persons birth country, their parents birth country or their grandparents birth country has never been remotely taboo as far as I can tell in my experience. Also, do I really need to state that I was not singling out non-white people?

No doubt some level of familiarity is necessary in order for such topics to be broached but that doesn't stop people from speculating an a persons circumstance.

And have we met anyone from Nevarrans yet? I honestly don't know... simply because so many nationalities in Thedas appear to be "Ferelden-lite" which amounts to just being Ferelden without the dogs. Which is a waste of setting.

Maybe, I'm just saying it undermines the idea that "too many Rivainis" strains credulity, when we can't actually know how many of the other national groups are represented, being that they are not physically, visibly distinctive from one another.

Thats fair. For the record, I do agree there weren't enough Rivannis in previous games (or Tevinter, Antivan or other nationalities... well, as far as we know, anyway). But just trying to get a gauge at what would make people happy.

I don't see what the big deal over this is.

If people want to play a "racially diverse" protagonist, have at it, but I hope that his background is left ambiguous enough for it to work, OR provide a lore friendly explanation. Neither is really too much trouble.

But I am going to probably only play a white male Inquisitor.

Nobody has to explain to YOU how many People of color they would like to see in game, furthermore the fact that you think that a video game character should need an explanation for having darker skin is ridiculous in the first place. What you are essentially asking other posters (who may be poc) is to explain to YOU why they want to see more people who look like them in game, and how many are they happy with, dude...chill out.

You have mistaken my questions for demands. Sorry about that. I was trying to help others understand their own requests so they can easily say what they would be happy with.

Someone said earlier that the quality of the dark skinned companions (which can be other than Rivanni, but which are, for reference reasons, easier to deal with just the one nationality since it is easily referenceable) did not matter if it was only going to be one or two.

Which is totally fair. But it also engenders the question of where people WOULD be happy. Four or five really well developed ones? Twenty minor NPCs? A middle ground between the two? More than twenty well developed NPCs?

This isn't about telling Bioware where to stop... more along the lines of finding out where people want Bioware to start.

What would make me happy is a middle eastern location with lots of different skin tones and accents with street markets selling spices and incense with a lovely desert palace to own and this man as my main LI.

And whenever white characters are introduced they must explain where they came from. :P

Cassandra is Nevarran. We also met one of the Chasind in Mark of the Assassin. He was Duke Prosper's chief enforcer.

Bioware did that with an Asian setting in Jade Empire (needing to explain a white character included).

If the rumored IP dealt with a middle eastern-esque world, like Prince of Persia, that would be quite enjoyable - again, white NPC character explanation included.

But I don't see such a game working within the setting framework already supplied with DA.

Ah, I did know Cassandra was from Nevara, I had just forgotten. Thank you.

Wait... are the Chasind and Neveran a similar culture?

I would think not. One is from the south of Ferelden. The other is to the north.

That was my understanding as well. But I am not intimately familiar with the lore of either group, either.

Agreed. Although I am curious as to why a Chasind would be working with an Orlesian.

They'll have to change the location to another continent to acommodate a Persian esque setting, though.

lol I'm mostly messing around but I wouldn't mind some "exotic" locations though. If we're getting Rivanni on the map I just hope it's not Fereldan II.

The 'flaily arms guy' with the moustache and soul patch in the map stabbing concept art is the guy I'm talking about.  Hopefully he's a companion.  The resemblance isn't great, but it is just concept art.  Here's hoping though.

Tbh if the team wraps up most of the major plot points involving Thedas i'd like to see them move on to another continent with new ethnicities, races, history and cultures.
