no srly i am ****ing hate such racism and fetishism of some peoples who want more (chose any collor of skin, eye, hair and sexual orientation) characters/nps/companions

they are characters not because of their skin, eye, hair tone and sexual orientaion, option to romance with your protag but because of their personality what devs put in them so deal with it

you may not like them or like them but they are characters what devs wanted to create and not force them to create cheap character only because you wanted those stupid thing what not make sense at all

Yeah, but only racists are so hardcore and hateful about it. As a w hite eprson I can sit down and enjoy The Cosby Show. It's a great sitcom and the fact that actors are black means nothing to me. Just like I enjoyed Family Ties because I think it is a goods itcom not ebcause they happened to be white actors.

Isabella was one of my two favorite DA2 characters (Varric was my other) and she wasn't the same coloured skin as me.

Just enjoy the game (or not if it sucks). Skin colour should be irrelevant at all times for all people. if it isn't you are a racist. No matter your skin colour. Period.

Implying that black and white people experience life exactly the same with the same ammount of representation on TV and the same amount of social stigmas and oppression. lolz. It's easy for you not to care because you can change the chanell to literally anything else and see your race represented. If you think representation for minorities isn't important, go talk to any black or asian person who watched the old Star Trek show back in the dayand they'll tell you how important it was seeing characters like Sulu and Uhura.

Ah yes, the "colorblind" argument. I don't think that's really how humans fundamentally work, except the ones with impaired vision. We categorize automatically by our nature with all the sensory tools we have available to us. The best we can do is keep our understanding of the world fluid and open to the correction of harmful stereotypes, and not let it dictate our understanding of any individual.

ok why playable Kossith(not member of the Qun) not make sense in independent organisation like Inquisition who are not care about you race, magic powers and religion like Grey Wardens and you mission to stop demon ivasion and bring the order in Ferelden,Nevara,Orlais and free Marshes?

our charater serve in this organisation for too long and only he/she survives in "suiside mission" what make him next commander of Inquisition and he/she must choose what Inquisition will do and what organisation they will be

I enjoyed jade Empire just fine despite it having only one scene with a white person and I was playing an Asian. Not once did I think to myself, my god, I rate this game an 8 but if I could be white, I'd give it a 10!

The moment you start judging something/someone based on skin colour that is racism/bigotry. That said, some racism is a lot more 'benign' or 'ess offensive' than others. ie. Asking for a characetr that has the same colour skin as you and implying you won't like the game as much if there isn't is racism but it's not as bad (obviously) as beating someone up because they are a different colour.

So equality= racism/sexism? because that's what your post is saying to me.

Yeah, go figure a game that takes place in an Asian based kingdom would be made up of mostly Asian people. Holy moley.

*raises hand* Lebanese guy here

It's a little annoying to see people dissing the dark-skinned Caucasian representation in Thedas. That's exactly what us Lebanese look like (mostly)... some even look outright Euro-Caucasian.

So stop saying we have fake tans :P

You can already play a dark-skinned character, assuming you utilize a dark-skinned preset or create a dark-skinned character with the CC.

As opposed to a game that takes place in a Europe-based kingdom that is made up of mostly white people?

They have already shown there are nations where the majority is dark skinned people in Thedas. Also Europe isn't completely made up of white people, trust me. People from different nationalities are not bound to their countries, I don't think it's far fetched to assume we would run into more than a handful of racial minorities in the game considering how much we're supposed to be traveling.

Do we know what all nations we're traveling to? The only ones I've seen mentioned so far are Orlais, Ferelden, and Tevinter.

You played one game where you weren't represented then returned to a society that uses your skin color as the default. You can't seriously tell me you think the two situations are equivalent. Maybe living in Asia for a while would give you a more balanced POV.

This entire argument is pointless. Firstly we know there are dark skinned people in inquisition so the OP must be trolling.

Secondly, the reason why there are dark skinned people in Thedas is because humans didn't evolve in Thedas; they came to Thedas 5000 years before DA:O. Therefore it is totally possible, even likely, for there to be a diverse mix of skin colours.

Actually it is "balanced" when you consider the demographics of the population here in the U.S. at least.

Yeah, and? I'm trying to communicate here that it's understandable for some races to feel excluded/alienated and that it's definitely not racist to ask for some acknowledgement. Naturally DA already does this but my gripe was with a previous poster not the OP.

So you're essentially saying you're colour blind? That is the definition of racism. You dismiss the prejudice and ill treatment that people of colour face every day by saying you're colour blind - because I AM a POC and you do see colour. If I see a POC in a video game, a movie, a tv show, etc that affects me profoundly, because I need to see people like myself.

While you plea 'colourblind', I don't have the same privilege to live in a world where people don't treat me differently based on the colour of my skin. So what is so harmful and thoughtless is that you can turn away from something that I have to live with, that affects me deeply. You see white people represented in every aspect of society, from advertising to media, tv and film, I do not have the same privilege. So I find it both insulting and hurtful that you say that "characters are not their skin" because to someone who is extremely unrepresented in main stream media, this most certainly does matter to me.

"Dragons? Yeah, that's fine. Elves? Yup, that's okay too. Dwarves? Sure! Magic? Great! Demons?? Neato!! More than one PoC on screen at a time? Whoa now! That's just too unrealistic!!" is what I'm getting out of this thread.

You're right. I shouldn't treat you as I treat everyone else I meet, regardless of their color. I should treat you like you're different because of the color of your skin.

Because that line of thinking worked so well for people of color in the last several centuries, amirite?

Its important to have a ethnically diverse cast, considering there has been war in Thedas, which is always followed by immigration. People of colour need more representation, which is not hard to add to a fictional setting.

You obviously didn't understand what I said.

So, treat me differently? No, just treat me the way you would like to be treated. Like a decent human being, that's all. But do not pretend that you don't see colour, because you DO, everyone does. By denying that you see colour, you deny that I am inherently treated differently and you negate my experiences as a POC in your mind.

...Are you HONESTLY bringing up slavery and racial prejudice with a POC as some kind of smart last remark? I mean, really? Really?

It feels good playing dark skinned characters, and interacting with dark skinned npcs.

I can enjoy a game with mainly white people, but I'd prefer a little chocolate on the screen. That's not racism.

Haha, imagine if DA took out all the white people out of the game.
