You obviously didn't understand what I said.

So, treat me differently? No, just treat me the way you would like to be treated. Like a decent human being, that's all. But do not pretend that you don't see colour, because you DO, everyone does. By denying that you see colour, you deny that I am inherently treated differently and you negate my experiences as a POC in your mind.

...Are you HONESTLY bringing up slavery and racial prejudice with a POC as some kind of smart last remark? I mean, really? Really?

I deny that people of color are inferior to whites, and treat them like most people I encounter. Is that wrong?

No, being obtuse is wrong.

I said I treat colored people like I treat anyone else.

I never said I treated people nicely.

I guess this conversation is going nowhere. If you have anything of substance to say, I'm willing to listen.

Also, 'coloured' is a racist, antiquated slur.

Yet the "slur" is used openly among civil rights activists, most notably the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Must not be that offensive.

The NAACP was founded in the early 1900s. Those words, along with other antiquated terms, were the norm during that time. The fact that this term is used by POCs in reference to their own history is perfectly acceptable.

Today, in 2013, for you to use the word 'colored' is offensive and outdated. Use POC or 'people of colour'. There's nothing wrong with having sensitivity and awareness.

What is saying that there isn't load of people looking (insert non Caucasian ethnicity here)?
I mean, we know for a fact that both Tevinter and Orlais consists of several tribes and peoples that were conquered and/or united by the Tevinter tribe/Emperor Kordillus. If all of those were white I would be terribly surprised.

no srly i am ****ing hate such racism and fetishism of some peoples who want more (chose any collor of skin, eye, hair and sexual orientation) characters/nps/companions

they are characters not because of their skin, eye, hair tone and sexual orientaion, option to romance with your protag but because of their personality what devs put in them so deal with it

you may not like them or like them but they are characters what devs wanted to create and not force them to create cheap character only because you wanted those stupid thing what not make sense at all

So you're essentially saying you're colour blind? That is the definition of racism. You dismiss the prejudice and ill treatment that people of colour face every day by saying you're colour blind - because I AM a POC and you do see colour. If I see a POC in a video game, a movie, a tv show, etc that affects me profoundly, because I need to see people like myself.

While you plea 'colourblind', I don't have the same privilege to live in a world where people don't treat me differently based on the colour of my skin. So what is so harmful and thoughtless is that you can turn away from something that I have to live with, that affects me deeply. You see white people represented in every aspect of society, from advertising to media, tv and film, I do not have the same privilege. So I find it both insulting and hurtful that you say that "characters are not their skin" because to someone who is extremely unrepresented in main stream media, this most certainly does matter to me.

you do realise that your statements are incredibly contradictory... colorblind is racism? but to notice your being a PoC is not racist?
Would you like someone to hold your hand when they meet you and say "i acknowledge you are a person of color, you struggle with underrepresentation in a caucasian dominated and majority society, but i won't treat you any differently because you are a person of color in a white society, because you struggle so." that doesn't sound at all patronising....

Characters should never be their skintone or basic racial appearance. You yourself are actually superficialising characters of color by making their presence such a big deal, that they should appear on-screen in any mainstream media must be a great thing. regardless of course of whether they are engendering a valid stereotype (negative or positive). thats what your post is saying. I doubt thats what you mean, but its certainly how its coming across. To you, only skin color matters, because your particular color is unrepresented, or under-represented.

"People of color" is bull**** too if you ask me. I really don't understand how it can not be offensive when "colored" is. If a term is offensive you don't just leave the exact same term in the "new, totally non-offensive" one. That's like saying "people of n***erly ethnicity." "People with the chinky eyes." No.

to be frank, apart from the incredibly insulting words used to describe particular racial groups (which somehow made it all the way around the world), all the others you can take or leave. but keep your pseudo-intellectual american political correctness to yourselves. the world does not revolve around american sensibilities. they are influential of course, but the rest of the world doesn't need censorship from the us of a. we have our own censors and social standards tyvm.

Its farfetched to say I can superficialize characters of colour by being happy to see them... this is somewhat frustrating because you don't know what it feels like. You never will.

And only skin colour matters? Representation matters, yes, but of course I want to see a good, multi-dimensional character, whether they are good or bad. Who doesn't?

All it is is not using words that you know insult people and make them feel ****ty. So difficult, I know. Such high pseudo-intellectual principles of decency and politeness on full, vulgar display.

There's certainly nothing wrong with being sensitive and aware. In fact it's the right thing to do... especially in today's far more open-minded and progressive society, which promotes the shedding of old stereotypes and biases in favor of understanding and accepting those who have historically been oppressed (and in some cases, still are).

Of course, we have a long way to go yet. Ignorance is still rampant, and in some circles outright prejudice still prevails. Every victory for equal rights and representation is a battle hard-won, as most of the power still rests in the hands of the privileged class... and they can be a stubborn (if not outright bigoted) lot.

But society is making progress. Though the privileged class might view it as "pandering", the video game industry's increasing willingness to include people of color in important and positive roles (and even as the main protagonist as is the case with The Walking Dead) is a big deal... and that some of these games garner critical accolades and financial success is even more so. They're hitting a positive note with gamers everywhere.

These are tough times, but I believe everyone can pull through and we'll come out on top as a greater society than we've ever been.

...I just hope we don't because that would be boring. Rusting peoples jimmies is far more fun.

Alexander Hamilton said "Those who stand for nothing will fall for anything."

I'm inclined to disagree. Those who stand for an argument the most staunchly and firmly are all too often the easiest to troll.
