Anyone find Liara to be worse in ME3, romanced and not-romaned?

I can't even put my finger on why, but I don't like her as much in ME3. She used to be one of my favorite characters and one of my favorite romance choices, but something about her in ME3 makes that no longer the case. Her voice is different in a weird way, less high pitched and too... Serious, I guess? Hard to explain. I don't like how ridiculously dark blue, I preferred her LotSB skin tone. She's more hypocritical (to Banshees: "Those were people, this is horrible", to other types of husks: "Whatever, they're just mindless enemies you need to kill"). She's less upbeat. She's more secretive (EDI and Shepard even say this in-game). She somehow seems less close to you when romanced compared to other characters and how her romanced self was in the other 2 games (and yet is too close to you when she isn't romanced).

I guess bottom line, she just doesn't feel like Liara anymore. I know, character development. But somehow everyone else feels like the same character even if they had changed a bit throughout the series (even crazy **** to loving teacher Jack), while Liara seems like someone completely different.

I personally think it's an improvement compared to her ME1 personality. She's less obnoxiously devoted to Shepard, which is always a welcome trait. Still not my type, though.

I don't recall a huge difference between the tone of blue in LotSB and ME3. They already added the darker tones and blue lips, which does make that DLC kind of weird. I actually prefer her in ME3. Then again, a few of the characters are improved in this game.

I totally get what you mean. I romanced Liara in ME1 and even stayed loyal through ME2.

In ME3, as you say, she's definitely different. You see this on Priority:Mars. She's become more self-sufficient and more of a "badass". The first thing see her do is murder 2 people. Personally I both liked and disliked this. As a renegade Shepard, it was good to see her becoming a bit more like me, "growing up" in a way. Especially with the whole shadow broker. The downside is that she's just colder now. She's lost a bit of that naivete and gained a bit of emotional hardness along the way.

What's funny is that people complain about her being too clingy in ME3. I think if you romance her, you experience the opposite of that.

Actually, I like her more. It seemed to me many of the actors grew into their role as the series progressed. Anderson got much better. Liara stopped sounding so flighty. Udina is the only one who stands out as not improving his acting.

Part of why I made this thread was because I'm doing a trilogy playthrough again and I plan to make Liara the romance person for the first time in a long while, and it made me start thinking about how I definitely don't like her as much in ME3 as I do in the other games. Decided to make a thread about it, see what other opinions are.

I won't spoil it, but near the end a romanced Liara has a wonderful gift for you that shows her true feelings. It makes it worth playing through with Liara. The non romance version of that scene is quite inferior.

Yeeeeaaaahhh... I've played ME3 and the whole trilogy so many times that I've lost count. I know about that, I've seen the romanced and non-romanced version of it.

I liked her in ME1 the most.. Not so much as a romance, but she's kind of funny/awkward. I don't like what they did to her appearance in LotSB and ME3. She was probably prettiest at Illium in ME2. Or maybe it was the lighting? She kind of glowed. Heh.

Just so you know, I saw an interview with Ali Hillis and the way she characterized Liara in ME3 was that she was more human and more experienced.

Not much of a difference anyway. They're just uppity wizard people.

I finished my first ever Liara trilogy romance recently - I've always avoided her in the past. Although I don't dislike her, she is far from my favourite character but I find her personality in ME2 and 3 an improvement on ME1.

I definitely thought she was distant and cold at times, but it's hard to say whether this is her fault or that my expectations were slightly off, like I assumed she would be more clingy when in fact she wasn't. Her reaction to Thessia annoyed me though.

The scene I quoted went over my head. What was supposed to happen because my Shepard didn't see any of Liara's memories or whatnot, just a black screen and a white light.

It's basically the same thing. We all know about Liara's "gift," I assume this is German. It's only inferior if you make it.

Really, not much. Liara is a bit different than the rest though. I like the "edgy" Asari more (her "father" and Aria, for example).

Yeah Athyeta is probably my favorite not-Liara. I liked seeing her toss a volus with biotics in the shadow broker archives.

In ME1 she was the awkward nerdy girl and that's why people liked her. Then they made Tali the awkward nerdy girl romance so they shifted Liara to creepy stalker heroine.

Huh. Maybe that's why my favorite romance switched from Liara to Tali, Tali became how Liara used to be.

Liara has the worst character development in the franchise. It just make no sense whatsoever. She goes from being the naive archeologist to super agent and Shadow Broker.

Most of the time I found her ok, but there are those moments that I just can't stand. Memory is a treachery thing, so correct me if I'm wrong. But there is one part in Mars, where the VS go to find a radio or something and you are in a room with Liara and she comments how the VS have grow and became capable. WhoTF is Liara to say something like that? What does she knows about being an soldier or an field agent. But we have to accept that she does. Really, there are like 4 teammates across the game that I would accept saying something like that, but Liara saying it would be like Tali doing it.

But while Tali remains true to what she is, Liara doesn't.

There is another part where she say something about helping the Crucible team with some advance mathematics or something, but it was not her speciality. And I was like: why should she even know anything about that stuff?

She sounded bored more often than not to me, OP. Almost like you could see the VA reading the script. I also agree about her shade of blue. LotSB was a pleasant shade. Mhm.

She seemed pretty creepy in ME1 to me. Her first or second conversation was about how totall by the way it's not bestiality or weird for humans to sleep with asari.

I kinda like her more in this game than the previous games (I found her extremely boring and too innocent in ME1, creepy in ME2).Not by a whole lot, but I do have a little more respect for her.Her ME3 personality is a slight improvment, imho. Plus, I didn't get her gift nor did she ever mention it,and stands up to a cheating Shepard; that makes her alright in my books.

I still prefer Shiala and Aethyta as my top favorite Asari characters of the series; however, Liara has gotten my attention because of her personality in ME3.

But that's just me and two cents...
