Yeah, that was weird. She and you make it clear the relationship is still ongoing practically right after meeting on Mars, and the game aknowledges that for the rest of the game... Until that conversation, where she's acting like you're just friends again. I understand why the lock-in is needed (gives you a chance to change your mind), but I wish hers could have been written better. Kaidan's lock-in if you never cheated on him makes sense to your relationship in the rest of ME3, Garrus' does, Tali's is perfect with how the lock-in is right there in the first ME3 conversation with her, not sure about Ashley's because I've never romanced her through a full trilogy run... Liara's is the only one that feels disjointed or disconnected.

Ah well, that was just a minor thing to me. A bit weird, yeah, but ignorable.

Ashley's acknowledges it. She says what theyve been through, and asks where they stand.

So Ashley clearly does act like you're already in a romance and you're just finalizing it, rather then how Liara suddenly acts like a friend who wants more? So I guess Liara is the only one with a weird lock-in.

I just realized that Liara has LI in it, the acronym for love interest. Sneaky Bioware...:?

Until I get headphones. I won't fully appreciate it without a pair of good quality headphones. Watching it now with these speakers would be like playing a video game with a busted graphic card, you won't get the full experience and enjoyment out of it.

Why are you people turning this into another Geth vs Quarian thread?

If you want to argue, go make a thread about it, but there is no need to derail this thread. No one gives two damns about why you love the quarians so much and why you hate the Geth.

NO ONE CARES

Hey, a Gethmancer started it this time:whistle:

There were oddities about the status/lock in of relationships in general. For example, I had one character with an Ashley romance in ME1, and then Jack in ME2. In ME3 at the Mars mission, when Shep tells Liara he has a lot to live for, he's looking straight at Ashley, as if they are still in a relationship (with a non LI Ash, he looks straight at Liara and is referring to things worth living for in general).

Shepard falls in love with Ashley if you romance her in ME. That's just how romance works in these games. BioWare doesn't have that many just bangs.

I guess. Kind of seems that way.

That's kind of why I literally wasted my time making a new trilogy playthrough without her romanced. lol

Why didn't you just use Gibbed? It's what I would do.

Well if you have flash drive and a computer, that really shouldn't be problem. Of course if you don't have those things then you're SOL, but if you do I would use Gibbed for such little changes as a romance.

Miranda's Lock-in is not quite as bad, but it is pretty terrible as well. I had a thread up earlier saying that lock-ins with prior romance interests should have come the first time you meet them, like with Tali.

Liara's writing in both LotSB and ME3 is a huge improvement over her dialogue in ME1 (not to mention vanilla ME2), imo. While I like Drew as a story writer, he doesn't have Chris L'Etoile's or Patrick Weekes' flair for character writing...and despite being a Liara fan, I wasn't completely happy with ME1 Liara. For example, the constant fainting was really unnecessary. Once was fine (after Therum), but every time was a little annoying. I do still find myself wondering if Drew had Liara's role across the entire trilogy planned out when he originally created her character, her break the cutie arc arguably began the second she met Shepard and left Therum.

Anyway, I love how Patrick Weekes and Sylvia Feketekuty developed the character in LotSB and ME3. The old Liara was still there, but under other layers that had to be peeled away...some good writing here. The only thing that bothered me about her in ME3 was the "romance lock in" dialogue.

omg...the first time I played ME1, the fainting was such a huge facepalm moment. The first time, like you say, it made a teeny bit of sense, but afterwards it was just bad.

Plus, I don't think Hillis was quite as good an actor in 1 as she was in 3. She got better or got to know her character better.

To be fair, I think it's supposed to be pretty damn dramatic. So that's why she keeps fainting. Javik says Shepard was forever changed the day he saw the fate of the Protheans (it's also why he wishes to avoid remembering the past. unless you encourage him. In which case, he commits suicide later). It would be like watching a lot detailed murders or something out of the Holocaust. Liara calls Shep strongwilled, and I think the writers are doing a bit of railroading with the origin story there - it loosely assumes one of the more battle worn Sheps (Sole Survivor, Colonists, etc), who's seen a lot of crazy **** and is used to it.

Not sure how the "beacon" experience feels, but it's probably more visceral than merely witnessing, so she feels sick.

Here's a very good guide, though its for ME2. You'll need to track down the ME3 version of Gibbed, and there is probably a newer version of Modio. Hopefully Modio works for you, its hasn't been for me. I think the last time I played ME3 I used Horizon to access files.

There is not a single Shepard that isn't battle worn. You don't just wake up one day and decide to put on a N7 hoodie. You have to earn it.

Bad choice of words. I'm just talking about the Psychological profile is explicit with how some are defined by pain. Ruthless isn't necessarily defined by pain - they're more defined by a "whatever it takes" attitude and being called cold. War hero is defined by their leadership more than others. They all can kind of work for someone with a lot of resiliency, but I'm just talking about explicit details.

In any case, forget what I said. What I want to point out is that maybe there's a reason Liara has a hard time with it.

Just a question, did you enjoy the Ashley romance? I'm thinking of doing a new playthough and romancing her but I've seen a lot of people say that her romance is lacking compared to other squaddies like Garrus and Liara.

Yeah, I don't mind the question but I don't want my thread being derailed into an Ashley thread next. It's already been derailed once already, let's not have another. Answer the question (whoever answers) and drop the Ashley subject once the answer is given. If someone really feels like bashing or defending Ashley because of the answer, make your own thread about it and leave mine out of it.
