I just unlocked the Phoenix Adept, and I'm wondering how to build/play him. Any suggestions, BSN?

Oh, and here's my manifest.

You can skip out of Lash for the 6th rank in Passives. Strap on a Phaeston or a Mattock or a Hurricane if you have one.

Weapon + Singularity for lower level enemies. Smash for bosses.

Forum search is unreliable and often brings me outdated topics. So, no.

Use your Wraith or Talon and you should be set.

Get used to his lengthy wind-up moves aka smash and lash. You'll get killed more often then you think when using this two. Falcon and acolyte will pair nicely with singularity. You can swap out those the talon or an AR like the mattock if you don't mind the weight.

Geth Scanner is the gear for him for singularity traps, smashing thru walls and helping you adjust. Once you get the hang of him, PA is a tremendous all-range mook killer and trivializes Cerberus easily.

I think I spec the Phoenix Adept with four points in fitness and four points in lash for the bonus to biotic explosions evo. Singularity then lash or weapons for mooks, singularity then repeated smashes for bosses. I always use warp ammo on a Wraith, CSMG or Talon.

Just after Smash, dodge to avoid being caught out in the open. Or Heavy Melee after Smash for style points and to impress the enemy into submission.

This would be my choice. You could sub your Talon 2 for Tempest. Geth Scanner is my choice of gear but you don't have it. On Silver and below it makes sense to put some points into Lash, especially consider you don't have a very good manifest.

Warp ammo is your best friend. Learn how to Smash behind walls and how to close in in enemies fast.

This is the build I recommend for him. Any pistol or smg will do really as it's mostly for the power magnifier. Heavy barrel doesn't add weight on the Talon so you'll be around 170% with a Talon I and 200% with a Talon X.

For health based enemies: toss singularity > lash. The BE and DOT from lash will kill just about anything. (Phantoms may require a followup smash or shot).

For armor based enemies: if you are close enough singularity > smash > smash will give two biotic explosions as singularity's duration ending is a biotic combo detonator with this spec. (Shoot between powers if possible). If you can't close in on the target, use singularity > warp round gunfire until it gets close enough to smash.

I have also seen people do very well with something like the wraith in this setup, but I prefer the Talon for shield damage bonuses and the power amp mod.

No fitness, all his powers work extremely well together.
I use a Lancer w/ Incendiary. Singularity + Lash for long range BEs. Or for single targets, shoot until shields are down and Lash for a FE. Singularity + Smash close range for a hard hitting combo.

Looking at your manifest this could work well, or your Talon whatever you want. You can also put 5 in passives and 3 in fitness if you feel it helps, placebo effect and all.

Shotguns/Talon aren't really effective on him because he needs a long range alternative to Smash (and I don't like Shotguns and the Talon). Mattock/Phaeston/Indra will do.

I've found the best strategy is just using a different character.

Not really. And a Wraith X is a sniper... effective at long, medium, and short range.

If it's small enough that a shotgun/talon would have real trouble hitting it at range, then it is most likely health based and singularity > lash works better than gunfire on them. If it's armor based, it is usually large enough that the talon or shotguns are accurate enough at medium to long range.

lol wut. PA/V is a CQC class to start with. You cant detonate over half of your BE with Reapers on Gold and anything on plat by yourself if you dont go cqc. IMO Wraith is the best fit for him because Wraith has the perfect timing with Smash/Singularity for a free round of reload.

not to mention Wraith is doing better DMG than Indra and Phaeston at medium range.

I very much disagree. Phoenix Adept with a Pirahna is my second favorite kit, honestly. However, I don't play him longe-range either. He's already going to be up in the enemies' grills to Smash, so might as well have a shotgun to fill their face with while waiting for your powers to cool down. Just learn to dodge and roll around a lot, and hug corners.

OP, click the N7 manifest link in my sig to go see how I build mine. Image IPB

Since we're on the subject, I also have the PA but don't know how to spec him properly. My manifest is in my sig, could someone maybe take a look at my weapons and stuff to see what would go good with him?

Talon 5/Wraith 6

I prefer burst dmg on him than lolHurdurr but it couldn't be bad. Just remember to use warp ammo and as DR said, abuse combat roll. Also, smash cancel.

6/6/6/6/0 with a relatively light weapon (Talon, Wraith, Lancer, Piranha, Raider etc).

I'll probably go with the Talon.

You sure about shotguns (IE. Wraith) though? It's the Adept, not the Vanguard.
