There are many situations and maps where being stuck with just a shotgun or talon is detrimental. Besides with the weapons I mentioned the cooldown is fast enough to churn out Smash atracks continuously when needed.

Just because he is a CQC master doesnt mean he must always be at close quarters with the enemy. He doesnt have the luxury of high shields and health or biotic charge.

I think this is a classic case of l2p.

I agree somewhat... Being stuck on London with a Phoenix and a shotgun sucks, maybe Hydra and Rio too... But that's about it. There's enough good Smash spots on all the other maps.

Talon X puts him at 200% cooldown so your better cooldowns argument is rubbish. Also, these maps aren't huge, even at times where you're stuck at range you'll be able to land most of your pellets from a Talon and all of them from a wratih with a smart choke when shooting at large targets.

If you're shooting at little guys at range then you probably don't have shield penetrating lash, that build would play very differently. With shield penetrating lash the little things that are hard to hit at range with a shotgun become easy prey for quick BEs and shooting at them is pointless no matter what gun you have.

Forget Lash. Throw a singularity on mooks, headshots, smash. Against bosses, throw a singularity, shoot and then just smash. If you have a biotic on your team, follow him around. Singularity primes for them and smash both detonates and primes.

Singularity + Talon + Warp ammo trivializes phantoms.

That said, you can probably carry a Mattock X or something with you and still have 200% cooldown...

Although I have never seen Smash prime for anything else other than a singularity explosion. Never saw a warp detonate a smash or a throw detonate it either. Probably never found a co-operative biotic.

To be honest Phoenix Adepts are rarely seen in MP.

That's because pugs can't Smashdept. But when you're playing a biotic squad with friends, he is awesome. Turns gold and plat into a roflstomp.

Singularity all things, lash all things, use a acolyte if you have it,gets rid of shields quick so your lash or singularity can actually do something, smash big things that scare you. Be careful of smash its a slow animation and you have to be so close to use it, go around an corner and smash through walls to be safe.

You can actually side-roll out of the smash animation, on-host sooner than off-host. I'd recommend always doing it.

Also, if you need to strip something's shield to use lash on it, you specced lash wrong Image IPB

Yes, I can count on my fingers (of one hand) the number of times I've seen Smash-depts in matches. It's a lot of fun to watch them too. Seeing one face off against a Dragoon or doing a dance of death with a Phantom will never get old.

This is pretty much the build I used the last time I played with him.

There's some room to experiment. Smash is very much a boss-finisher, not your primary detonator. Rely on its ability to hit through walls. I use electrical over Biotic because it deals more damage overall, and you already have Singularity to prime explosions. It detonates them either way.

Weapons are pretty much a matter of taste. Very few maps are large enough that you need a long range gun. I'd recommend your Talon, Carnifex, or Wraith. Arc Pistol, Acolyte, Crusader and Mattock are all worth a try too. The Arc Pistol and Acolyte's charged shots actually work really well with the Phoenix's long animations.

This is the build I recommend for him. Any pistol or smg will do really as it's mostly for the power magnifier. Heavy barrel doesn't add weight on the Talon so you'll be around 170% with a Talon I and 200% with a Talon X.

For health based enemies: toss singularity > lash. The BE and DOT from lash will kill just about anything. (Phantoms may require a followup smash or shot).

For armor based enemies: if you are close enough singularity > smash > smash will give two biotic explosions as singularity's duration ending is a biotic combo detonator with this spec. (Shoot between powers if possible). If you can't close in on the target, use singularity > warp round gunfire until it gets close enough to smash.

I have also seen people do very well with something like the wraith in this setup, but I prefer the Talon for shield damage bonuses and the power amp mod.

What Rlucht wrote here is pretty much the way to go from my experience. I would differ in opinion and suggest a power amp mod and Geth Scanner(so you can smash enemies through walls without exposing yourself, which on Gold and Plat is very important)

I throw a singularity out on the other side of a wall enemies are coming around then run around the corner and smash through the wall when I know they are within range of the singularity for the Biotic combo. Start with an attack from your gun(Talon or Hurricane) if possible then smash, smash, fire off shot, singularity, smash smash for the big bosses.

For Phantoms and the like, Lash with pierce evolution is great, especially if they are focused on your ally then you can almost always catch them with it. One of my favorite combos when a Phantom is coming at me is to catch her with a Lash which usually pulls her to the ground about 10 feet behind me, then to turn around and immediately do a Smash while she is still getting up.
