Yeah, BG1&2 had 6 person party. Cant say for NWN though, never played that one.
BG is over a decade old. There was no party in NWN. You did have an AI companion. The expansions were different.

My 6 person response was more towards the person saying BG2, kinda wanted to throw that BG1 had that as well. But in this topic as a whole I see no point for "6" or 5. Four is just fine for me.
Apologies.

Another compelling reason for a 5 person party is to allow the Inquisitor to be carried around in a sedan chair. I can support this.
But what if Iron Bull has one corner and Varric has the opposite......?

Damn.. I forgot about Varric. He can, uh.. hoist Bianca on his shoulder to make up the difference. Maybe..

You need an Honor Guard don't you? Let him do it and let that Mage Elf hoist you up.
Its a fitting use for a robe in my eye.

Forget five. I'd like to wield all nine party members at once. With the frostbite engine in play, this shouldn't be a problem. From the standpoint of the narrative, it just doesn't make sense for the Warden/Champion/Inquisitor to merely bring along an arbitrary 3 party members for every battle.
... even better.
And, as suggested, Varric will be the Honor Guard.

We don't know how Agents will interact in combat though.
You very well may be limited to only three companions but have access to an Army none the less.
