It seems like Bioware doesn't want you to play the main tank. I'm brand new to this game and my main character is a tank. From what I've read Alistair is hard to get rid of, but 2 tanks is too much for one group and Alistair is definately a tank.
Will I be able to get rid of him and replace him with other classes?
Problem is Alistair is an okay tank but not great. The best possible tank is the PC but that goes the esame with any other class.
I personally like two tanks, one rogue, and one mage. In a party of four, there is going to be one duplicate as there are only three base classes. However what might be cool is an arcane warrior (PC) , one tank (alistair), mage, rogue. That way you sort of have two warriors and two mages plus the rogue.
I think im going to try arcane warrior next playthrough.

I suggest you click on the "projects" tab at the top of the page because mods make every game better, and bioware is making it really easy for us to make and use them in DAO.

If specced properly and with good equipment, hes fantastic. I mean I dont understand some people. I can send Alistair in a crowd of 6+ mobs and have him taunting everything in sight and his health never drops below 80%.
You can also run a MC as a tank and the two of them can feed off each other perfectly.

He may be, but I like playing a tank and in my opinion 2 tanks in this game is one too many.

If you don't want to use him, just leave him in camp, what's the problem?
My guess is that the OP hasn't left Ostagar yet.

I'm going without a tank on my latest playthrough, no-mage either. Just Shale (38 con, rest strength, pulverizing blows most likely, never used her much though), Sten (2h), PC (2h) and Lel (Dex Archer).

Shale is a tank, not sure what you mean you dont have a tank if he is in your party?
