Because there are too many threads about how Cassandra and Morrigan look.

I think Varric's gone through a bit of a mid-life crisis. He seems to have dyed his blonde hair brown... and his receding hairline has crept forward, too, which I can only assume means he found the Thedosian equivalent of Bosley and had his chest hairs transplanted to his cranium (the real reason his chest was covered in the trailer).

Personally, I'm going to miss his exquisitely arched eyebrows... and his magnificent manly chin... but he doesn't look that different and it's nothing I won't get used to, especially once Brian Bloom gets to talking.

I almost didn't recognize him as a brunette. Bianca was my clue there. In the trailer it looks like he's had a rough day, probably covered in soot and smoke from the fires, but he's still got brown hair in the the gameplay footage.

Eh, he's a dwarf. For those who are into such things, I guess he's OK-looking.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not prejudiced against dwarves or nothin'. They're fine so long as they stay in their underground reservations.

I think he looks almost the same. Hair color and eyebrows are the only differences. I recognized him immediately and I think he looks great

 his hair looks a little darker, but ultimately i recognized him right away so Yay!

Looks pretty much the same to me, just more detailed because of the better game engine. Hair looks darker because of lighting.

Oh lord, hell knows how many pages of bickering about Cassandra´s new look but that of Varric is all like... Hey! That´s Varric, everything allright if they just keep his chesthair.

I always disliked Varric so much that his looks don't matter to me at all (mind you I only read/wstched a few snippets of DA2 but what I saw, on principle, made me dislike it....tho I have been wrong before)

You take that back! Hahah. Varric is awesome. He was a good buddy to my Hawke while all the other ones had nuances that ranged from crazy to robotic.

Varric looks awesome!

There are some minor differences, that's true, but he looks better now, imo.
More hair and less chin make him younger and more attractive (to me anyway).

Sad but true. Varric has man-bits so he's exempt from having every little aspect of his physical appearance criticized.
Notice how no one is going "HE LOOKS LIKE A GIIIIIIRRRRL wwaahh" or "he's sooo fat ugh ". On the one hand this is because Varric by his very nature is a flawless masterpiece of a dwarf, but it's also because of an ugly awful double standard that says women have to look ~perfect~ but men can have flaws because reasons.
