and don't take away the options for the rest of us

I also don't see any reason as to why Character A can't romance character B because they happened to pick a qunari/elf/dwarf/human. The games are about replayability after all.

Then have a romance like Sebastian's.

And what if that characters preference doesn't match your PC?

don't forget that they are *supposed* to be tailorable to each individuals preferences.

that's what has set bioware and bethesda apart from so many others, your choices are yours alone

Then preferably said character won't be a LI.

Obviously one can never please everyone, but to me it is way too restricting to be like 'race x will never ever date with race y'. That character A may have a preference for one or the other: sure! But to me, a 'preference' does not imply 'rules out all other options'. I think it is best to leave all options open in order to let the player decide for themselves how they want to play it.

I never got the 'playersexual' hate either. It is not like every npc in the DA world was humping your leg. And yeah, some flirt with you, so what? I actually liked it that some take the initiative: more realistic to me than everyone waiting for you to make a move. At least it never bothered me, but I guess that is not the same for everyone :)

I'd rather the game be economical with our limited choices, and let every love interest be fair-game regardless of gender/race. We're only getting two (three?) options per gender, anyways, so gating one or more off based upon race seems short-sighted towards your playerbase.

Yeah. Lets implement Thedas' version of the Immorality Act. You'd think a dwarf and a qunari who want to do the nasty would be allowed to work out the logistics themselves but noooooo...

Just don't tell this to the Dwarves in the Witcha' since every other word out of their mouth is 'ploughin' or some other euphemism. TBH, restrictions on race romances would seem to cause more trouble than good. Its a RPG, let people decide for themselves.

Yes

Chances are that won't be the case because I play humans (the same race the vast majority of people do not just majority VAST MAJORITY). I play elves and humans. With humans accounting for 7x the amount of playthroughs I have than elves. And since the majority of players play humans the chances of the devs restricting something already used by a minority of players to a even smaller minority to me at least isn't that likely.

So the only people who will most likely be affected by this will be players playing non humans so no honestly I prefer BW put the resources towards an LI who can be enjoyed by potentially all players than have multiple LIs with a bunch of restrictions and have said restrictions more than likely still cater to the majority of players. Rather than having one character not like elves/qunari/dwarves for whatever reason while everyone and their mother is perfectly okay with humans. Not to mention the "oh but if X is restricted Y should be restricted and yadda yadda yadda." And just no.

Or if there MUST be restrictions can they not be side LIs such as Parsini, Kelly and the Consort? if the companion LIs are the restricted ones no thank you. Just a waste. They can only have so many companions be LIs in the first place before the cries of DATING SIM start up again.

Plus this ends up being the you only have 1 LI crapola while someone else has 3 options all over again. Unless everyone gets stuck with 1 option. I could work with that.

I'm too lazy to read the whole thread; is this about it not making sense for a character to want to bang you when they've been established as a racist or something? Because if so, yeah, I agree. The fact that you could romance Fenris as a mage (not a race, I know, but it's a similar situation) seemed kind of weird.

It went from only Race A can romance Race A, while Race B and C can mingle and nobody got time for Race D to people arguing about it being dependent on personality, others saying no restrictions, and then a fringe of "Kill it with fire!" re: romances.

qunari have one thing called the Qun and they have very strict rules. Dwarves have a very rigid social system and castes.

What about the Tal-Vashoth?
Or casteless dwarves?

Tell you what... You just play the game that way and you will be entirely happy. The rest of us will play how we want to and also be happy. Doesn't that seem like the more obvious choice?

Screw logic, I want my protagonist to sleep with anybody I want. Seems legit.

100% agree. But you have to keep in mind that you can't spell BSN without BS.

Having restrictions seems a little pointless.

But the dwarf could easily be a surface dwarf, and the qunari a tal-vashoth. In which case, they have absolutely zero reason to restrict who they date.

I just think that not every character should want to romance your PC. It was kind of cool that Varric preferred something other than Hawke. I think it would be interesting if a sexual character didn't want to get with a species that may not be as compatible to theirs as others. In my tastes, things are boring when every character is available to your character. Did Mass Effect lose anything by Tali not being attracted to FemShep? Did DA:O lose anything by Sten not being attracted to your PC? Restriction isn't necessairly bad. It's more interesting when every character has a mind of their own.

Romances are not and should not be the central focus of 40+ hour RPGs.

This guy knows it.

The Qunari woman should refuse to sleep with an elf because she'd break him and a dwarf because they're too stumpy and smell like a brewery. I think it's high time some reverse discrimination was dolled out by the Qunari, given the how a lot of people hate them here. A Qunari lady shouldn't jump just anyone, they're way to classy and sophisticated for that. That's the preserve of dirty fan fiction...ewwww
