Or standards for anything. My ruthless Templar zealot Hawke was able to romance Anders, LOL!!!

I have no idea what MotA said, I haven't played it. What does it say?

Hawke can, and probably does, sleep with tons of people besides the LI.

Not all of them. The fact that it's POSSIBLE doesn't automatically mean you're in an open relationship.

That's not what MotA said....

Oooh give me the details. I've never played mota.

You mean like, if you wanted to romance Leliana in Origins, you should be forced to try to not be an ass and do a couple nice things from time to time? Because we have to admit, it was a little weird that she was all "I love you" over the Warden even if he was a psychopathic power hungry monster.

Yes. You should not be able to sleep with Leliana after manically killing the Dalish elves, keeping the anvil of the void, siding with the templars (While I can see Alistair accepting this I'm more hmmm on Leliana), and heck you can keep romancing her after poisoing the ashes if you harden her and your intimidate is high enough XD

I mean the latter at least should auto end the romance. at least.

Aparently romances and relationships with companions in Inquisition will be more "event based" so maybe such a system will be brought into use.

Every LI shouldn't work that way because simply put they don't all need to have hang ups on species culture. Like if GW dude had a hang up I'd facepalm. One would think he works with different species all the time.

A Dalish elf companion on the other hand who's used to being around just other DE sure.

I agree they shouldn't all have hang ups on culture, but i don't agree that that automatically means they don't have standards for what they find attractive or not.

No LI has standards for attractiveness; they'll all bang you even if you look like you've been hit in the face repeatedly with a frying pan.

Case in point.

Completely lost it at "another lovely one to keep me company".

Hopefully. The whole "I'll dump you for daring to hurt my feelings but you can go ahead and drink out of that baby's skull honey bunz. I don't care."

I actually slept with her for the first time immediately after destroying the ashes. Which was fun.

Actually DA2 was somewhat better at this. Romances could be "accidentally" terminated if you misstepped at several key points.

There is no dialogue there between Varric and Tallis concerning Hawke and Isabela.

Sorry, just click on Hawke's dialogue in there and you'll find it. Something about stories of "personal nature."
As for Tallis that's in there somewhere to. Really, it's just about Hawke in general, not just Isabela.

Lol at Bioware. No matter what you do, your Hawke sleeps with a bunch of people.

Varric: If you want your private life to stay, uh, private, maybe don't sleep with half of Kirkwall.

I thought that was only supposed to trigger if you ever used a blooming rose worker? I never heard that line.

Hmmm... so half of Kirkwall is potentially lesbian? Food for thought.

I don't think there should be race restrictions for romances. I think having a companion dislike you and hold prejudice to you because of your race is okay, but that that should be able to be overcome and you can still romance the character.

One of the things I always enjoy about group adventures where the group is comprised of different races, be they real races or fictional, is that despite what racial tensions there may be in the world at large, everyone in the group eventually gets along. Aside from sending a really nice message, I think it's rather realistic. People can't go through what these characters go through and not form bonds with each other that transcend race.

That's probably because like most sane people, you are actually friends with Varric.

Is actually possible to do otherwise? I only tried it in one playthorugh and there was no way a could hit 100 rivalry. He seemed actually determined to like my unbearable, not at all friendly warrior.

Ah, I think that line only triggers if you're not in a romance. I think, because the dialogue under has Varric responding about the LIs.

Just be aggressive all the time with him in the party. You'll get him maxed quickly.

There really isn't a clear cut way to slice that one. For what other reason would one specifically single out a group of women and the give their identifying characteristic as the reason why they are a unattractive?

I don't find BLACK (identifying characteristic) Women attractive.

It's pretty clear to me, any other reason would involve you offering up some short sided stereotype. Im certainly not advocating that every race must be attracted to any race. But we can be honest with ourselves.

Perhaps this is where the disconnect lies? (Emphasis mine)

I also do not typically find people of exterme difference in my own height attractive either.  They can still be interesting, fun, intelligent, and engaging.

That I do not find a particular physical characteristic attractive does not make me 'racist' against a race that happens to have that physical characteristic.

Note that racism:

The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/racist

Also prejudice:
http://www.thefreedi...y.com/prejudice

Because some people may have physical characteristics that don't appeal to me, as an individual, does not mean that I consider a particular race to be superior.  At *best* you can conclude that I think that one race is superior in the aspect of attractiveness, but if we're to apply the application of discrimination and prejudice so liberally, the term will lose meaning.

There are people that do not think I'm attractive.  I don't consider them awful human beings for thinking so.  Likewise, if a lot of people share my physical characteristics, it doesn't make them prejudiced against me.

You're taking a single aspect, physical appearance, and assuming that this leads to a full on prejudice against an entire race.  Please click on that link regarding the definitions of prejudice.  I think it's exceedingly shallow that someone would assume that because I may not find a person attractive, I have any irrational sense of superiority over that individual.

I don't find myself attracted to Neil Degrasse Tyson (probably in large part because he's also a man) either, but I'll full on state that the guy has accomplished more than me in life and is probably significantly better than me at a lot of things.

Note that not being attracted to someone also does not mean that I think that that person is ugly.

In any case, at this point I'm going to full on abuse my powers to get the last word, because this thread is going way off on tangents it really shouldn't be.  Feel free to pass judgment on me at your discretion.

Both dialogues happen I think. It depends on whether you are friends with Varric or not.
