ok... don't get me wrong. merill wasn't the best of characters or the most appealing for most of you guys in DA 2 but and sure enough she was incredibly funny and stupid and annoying in different times throughout the game. I loved the sarcastic, innocent and naive dialogues she had with the rest of the party members. and she really does seem to have her own experience with blood magic. wouldn't it make sense if she made an appearance? (and no not as a compagnion, we need people who know how to go home on their own without a ball of twine )

best case scenerio : we find her alone in the wild with a bunch of bandits she thinks are her tour guides<_<

She might have a cameo, but I don't expect much more than that. Same for Fenris, Sebastian, etc.

No. Merril was incredibly obnoxious.

I don't, I never got to know her; her ct 3 quest was bugged in every single one of her playthroughs which meant I could never finish it.

There is no font size large enough that can convey the level of 'no' I would say to this. Just sayin...
Bioware I implore you not to force my hand in this.
edit: misspelled implore

I'd be okay with Merill's existence being retconned entirely.

Meh. Each time I play, I find her less appealing. I pushed her into rivalry on my current playthrough just so I could hear her shout at Hawke. It was funny getting kicked out of her house tho- I'd gone to visit at night time, and naturally, there were bandits in the Alienage that I hadn't cleared out. Kicked to the curb just to get ambushed. I laughed for about 10 minutes.

She's my favorite Dragon Age character. As long as they keep her in character and just as adorable and as badass, I'd love to see her again.

With Varric, Cassandra, Cullen, Leliana, Morrigen (and I'd bet on Flemeth, and Isabela too ) making reappearances, I'm rather desperate for some new blood.

I like characters from previous games, but I don't like them reappearing just for fan service - eg, I thought Zevran was great in DA:O, but his appearance in DA2 was way too contrived. Could've done without it.

Merril's had her time.

Merril wasn't naive, Merril was plain stupid.

The only redeeming characteristic of hers was the accent and that she initiated conversations with Varris so I could hear HIM talk.

So I am understandably not particularily thrilled to expect a Merril cameo. If it's in DAI, meh whatever, if it's not. just as welcome.

I say let DAII be DAII and DAI be DAI.

I believe everyone remembers how well DAII did with the cameos ... *cough*Leliana*cough*

haha wow u guys hate her guts. i think she was kinda funny with her innocence and would probably be funny in a small side quest she'd be standing on the front-line of the war and be like: hmmm why are those mabaris growling?... poor doggies don't they feed them enough? *looks innocently at the inquisitor and the rest of the army *

It's hard to take anyone as dumb as Merill seriously. Even as comic relief.

The problem is I would completely see her doing just something like that ... and I would not call that innocence.

Innocence would be "please don't kill me with that sword, please", not "ohhh, shiny".

I really did enjoy her a great deal. Loved her design, her story had a perfect balance of levity and tragedy (especially if approached from the Rivalry side) and her personality, dialog, and voice work was some of the best in the game (Eve Myles crushed it. Thanks for the casting Mr. Gaider!). And I wouldn't call her naive per say, just incredly and tragically misguided.

As for her coming back? I really don't see a need for it. The only rationale for such a cameo would be if she appears with Hawke (if she goes off with him in your game as she did in mine), or if she's somehow involved with the Dalish uprising in Orlais that's been hinted at in the new Dragon Age novel. The later scenario I doubt due to her either being banished on penalty of death by her Clan or having been forced to kill her Clan (whichever happened to you).

But that's impossible. She no longer Naive by the end of DA2.

Merrill's naivety shouldn't be overdone. Many of the best bits with her are where you're not really sure if she's being naive or subtly mocking the person she's talking to - she's actually very snarky sometimes. Or if she's actually being quite perceptive in an odd sort of way. Or if she's deliberately avoiding the issue because she doesn't want to talk about how dangerous what she's doing actually is.

If she returns, her experiences should have suddenly made her a grizzled, Cuban cigar smoking hardcore badass for some reason.

Because random character 180.

i just loved her way of thinking, but to be honest her line of thinking in DA2 was drastically if not polar opposite of her personality in Origins. In Origins she seemed abrunt, if not harsh. Remember when she says Tamlen is likely dead and you have the option of telling her she doesn't know that. She didn't seem very nice in origin, if anything i thought she was a total ****. Also if you try to bring the other male elf along to look for Tamlen, without telling her shes coming she kind of yells at you..

Shes not as bubbly in origins, nor is she as naive.

The results she gets from everywhere pretty much back the whole "she's just stupid" argument up pretty convincing.

Nevermind that her particular plot was a giant maelstrom of stupid between her, the Keeper and the rest of the clan, which wouldn't have happened if the Keeper deigned to actually tell her about that demon instead of onyl saying "no, don't", then spreading slander about Merril and those other Dalish taking it at facevalue to run away from her to their deaths and other stupid sh*t.

Her character was enjoyable in a way you stick with some really stupid friends to see what they mess up next and that's it in my honest opinion.

I would enjoy a cameo from Merril, as long as I could stab her in the face and gigglesquee!!!1! While she died.

Just as I said with your Fenris thread: Not unless it makes sense in the story.

Characters shouldn't reappear without meaningful purpose in my book.

New appearance, new personality, why not just make an entirely new character? Did they keep the name only so there would be a connection to Origins?

They at least tried to handwave the changes (ugh) to Anders.
