Not a particular fan of Merrill. I'd prefer she not appear unless there's a critical reason storywise for her to do so. Hopefully her & any other of Hawke's LI will potentially be off with Hawke in DAI.

Sadly, that's kind of where this whole discussion will go until it gets locked for going off the rails. Some people really liked Merrill. All of her. How she was written, designed, and so forth.

Others did not. They disliked her so much that if anyone *did* like her than clearly they only did so because she was a "Waifu" or they like little girls or some nonsense explanation that's just insipid.

Instead of just saying, "I didn't care for her, but if she show's up that's fine. She's just not for me..." they have to go the extra mile to remind everyone why their superior opinion is unquestionable and everyone else is wrong for liking a "stupid" character.

For one she was's worth the effort to  recruit,if there was an option to leave her behind I would have taken it. 
And when was she useless?? ......For  me it was the entire game . Her stupidity got my elf warden's keeper killed. <_<

Because she's Elven short and she's young (18-20)? That doesn't equate "kid." And if your mind goes there, that's on you, not on the people who enjoyed the character for many other reasons.

Merrill was next in line to keeper to her clan. She's a powerful, driven mage with some pretty sensible ideas about magic. She's also a fish out of water. She's surrounded by humans, living in an alienage in a human city. Uncertainty and unfamiliarity =/= naivete.

Of all possible cameos (and I share others distaste for the prospect of totally useless, fanservicey cameos), I think she could be more relevant.

Merrill looks like a 12 year old boy.

To be fair however its a new engine and the elves are getting a redesign, so I doubt she would look so horrible in DA:I. But her character model in a DA2 was a bit disturbing considering the character was a potential LI. She should have been more adult-looking.

Liara was totally awkward and unfamiliar with humans, and human 's customs in M1. And yet, you don't see people saying how she's dumb and naïve. Everyone knows Liara is smart and I never blamed her because she didn't know another specie. I think people are able to distinct those two different things.

Merril gave many stupid comments, which had simply little to do with simply being unfamiliar to foreign customs, just... logic. She's often totally disconnected from what is happening around her, from reality...

and you forget that

1)Merethari send your Mahariel with Merril for this tainted mirror and she is not cure them from taint

2)that Mahariel father(previous Keeper of the clan) and mother die because of bandits and Merethari was not there

3)that Merethari frightened clan with her bull**** about Merril(SHE WAS THE NEXT KEEPER and Merethari ousted her from the clan) who is cure herself from taint what Merethari is not do

4)that Merethari endangered her clan who stay for 10 years near Kirkwall and allowed Vatterral to kill her clan members

5)that Merrethari release sealed demon and become possesed...and do not talk this bull**** about Merril protection and care about her, no she was just stupid as Wynne in Fade
