Because she's Elven short and she's young (18-20)? That doesn't equate "kid." And if your mind goes there, that's on you, not on the people who enjoyed the character for many other reasons.

To be fair however its a new engine and the elves are getting a redesign, so I doubt she would look so horrible in DA:I. But her character model in a DA2 was a bit disturbing considering the character was a potential LI. She should have been more adult-looking.

I have to ask, how women and 12 year old boys looks where you are from.

Merril gave many stupid comments, which had simply little to do with simply being unfamiliar to foreign customs, just... logic. She's often totally disconnected from what is happening around her, from reality...

Yeah, if there had been some character growth shown, where she gradually became more savvy and less naive and flighty over the seven game years, I would be less skeptical of how she was written.  But as it is, Merrill is shown to be intelligent at times, and even insightful, but then they make her the "silly helpless young girl" trope again and I can't help but think of the "Sexy Baby" comedienne from 30 Rock...

That's kind of unsettling (the 12 y.o. boy comment). Mainly because ...why are women required to be buxom with long, luscious hair just to be considered feminine looking? We come in all shapes and sizes. I have long hair and an hourglass figure but that's just one appearance/body type out of dozens. We aren't produced from cookie cutters...

Exactly...seems like there is something wrong with slender body styles now..

what bad writing? if you hate a char it is acutally good writing because you cared for that person. albeir in a negative way. bad writing makes you not care about a char.

I really dont want a repeat of how Leliana was handled. I'm fine with moving on to a new protaganist. Let me keep whatever happy memories I had of the previous installments.

You're tilting at windmills.

I'm not arguing that all female characters should conform to some sort of feminine ideal. In fact I like both Aveline and Cassandra as characters, neither of which are "buxom with long, luscious hair" or particularly feminine looking. One of my favorite characters from A Song of Ice and Fire (a.k.a. Game of Thrones) is also[url=http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Brienne_of_Tarth]Brienne of Tarth.]

My problem with Merrill's appearance is that she looks like a juvenile rather than an adult, which is a little disturbing considering she is one of the potential LIs. Her appearance also isn't helped by being coupled with a naïve and childish personality which only serves to magnify her physical flaws.

I thought the point of her whole character is that she was never naive in the first place, except about elf vs human culture.

Without going into spoilers she had some pretty harsh motivations and knew what she was getting into by pursuing them.

Merrill is one of my more beloved characters. Just an awesome mix of naïve and boldness. Still don't think she needs a cameo, because I am not a fan of brief appearances for nostalgia sake.
