Wow. He even went the extra mile and got the limited edition. The guy's a bad ass.

Anyway, its good to see our shameless plugging reached fruition. Hope you enjoy it!

Lol, I know...I said, "You didn't have to do that..." But I think deep down he wanted it too. :-)

Awakening is just one of those games where it's worth getting the system it's for for that game alone. Enjoy your new game, I know that I and others in this thread sure as hell did. Also unlike when we first played it all the free and paid DLC will be available for you to get by now.

Hopefully you don't have anything planned for the next few days, like work or, you know...life in general.

Yup, it's one of those games.

If you leave the 3DS closed but left on, as well as have wireless communications enabled (theres a switch on the right side), it'll enable two things, spotpass and streetpass. Spotpass automatically downloads free content for games you've played, and streetpass exchanges content with any nearby 3DS consoles. (such as alowing you to interact with other players FE teams and vice versa).

When you get new data, the light on the top right of the case will glow blue for spotpass, and green for streetpass.
And you need to have connected the 3DS to the internet to use spotpass.

The paid DLC appears for purchase on the in game map at a certain point.

I wouldn't advise buying all the dlc, as some of it is mostly geared towards people who just want to see familiar faces from past games, and the main "reward" for these maps are characters that you probably will never use because they can't support.

Once you unlock the Outrealm Gate, if you want to buy something, I suggest the map called The Golden Gaffe. It's one of the few that your team can take on at an early stage, and it's a massive help in the ol' cash department.

There are maps that give extra classes for your characters, but they're best left for later in the game when your team is a lot beefier.

Yeah. a lot of the paid DLC maps aren't really worth it, unless you really want access to two classes or DLC exclusive skills that you couldn't get otherwise. Also for the challenge, depending on the map difficulty. I second getting the Golden Gaffe. You could alternately get the Golden Pack which gets you the Golden Gaffe, a map purely for EXP grinding and a map which gives you access to unlimited Regalia weapons but that one isn't worth attempting until the end of the game due to the difficulty.

There's also other more unique map packs like the scramble pack, which revolves around extra conversations and dialogue between the characters, and a story focused map pack that involves an alternate universe take on certain events within the story. Once again though if you really want to get these I suggest you not play them until you beat the game.

OK. PM me if this seems off topic, but how do you engage support conversations? Does the game prompt you? So far it's pretty much pulling me along the initial chapters. Just confused as to what support conversations are or when they're available.

There should be a "Support" option on the world map menu. I don't recall it being available from the beginning, but it isn't far along when it unlocks.

I'm pretty sure the game will let you know when they're available.

Ah! I see it now. So...when people fight side by side on the battlefield...it opens support convos?

Fighting while paired up grows bonds a lot faster than fighting side by side, but as long as you see little hearts appear after an action, it counts. Each pair varies in how fast their supports unlock, but if you're paired up and attack something a few times, that's usually enough to open up the C conversation.

You can only have one S support per character, for reasons which will become obvious. It's highly recommended you get everyone to S with someone.

Especially Lissa. Actually, your opinion will probably differ on the eventual reward for getting Lissa to S, but you should still do so.

So how are you liking the game so far?

It's very fun - the battle makes total sense. I think I'm confused about the support convos, still. Also, I thought that placing a character side by side to another is what makes them fight paired up? :::confused:::

And I'm confused by the S C ....etc letters in regard to conversation. :'(  (I know it's all me being a newb. I'm embarrassed.)

The letters is what rank you are in the conversations it makes the units slightly stronger when working together. The S rank is marriage though so be sure not to marry someone by accident like i did.

Pairing up makes two units take up one space, you move one character onto another. You pretty much lose an attacker, but the front character in a pair has improved stats depending on the class of the rear character. The rear character can't be hit, so it's useful to hide healers and weaker characters in the rear of a pair. I think the game explains Pair Up in Chapter 3, when you recruit Sumia.

You can't get away with not using pair-up on the harder difficulties, as the stat boosts are essential for survival. I resisted as long as I could because it's a new mechanic that I didn't quite care for in the beginning, but now I hope they never remove it.

This. For the uninitiated, S rank is one hell of a trap. I started pairing up my avatar and Lissa whilst she got some levels after upgrading her to a War Cleric. Their supports start off innocently enough, they just play pranks on each other, then suddenly, proposal.

I know, why wait until S to pop the question? Gregor gets right down to business in C.

I don't recall a single S support that didn't make me shake my head. I haven't played as a male avatar yet, hopefully they're better there. But it sounds like they aren't.

Gaius/Nowi was painful to read. Painful.

Has anyone on here played Silent Storm? The WW2 Xcomish/Jagged Alliance type game that came out in 2004-5ish?

I'm sort of thinking about buying a gameboy just for this game because good squad turn based games are so few and far between, if anyone can compare it to Silent Storm I'd love to hear :).

Well, I haven't played Silent Storm, but I played XCOM, if that helps.

FE is less getting to advantageous positions and hunkering down in buildings, and more killing enemies before they kill you. Everyone sees everyone, even through walls.

That's not saying there's no strategy involved, as there is. Every battle's a chess match, and you have to plan your moves well.

I loved XCOM, and I love Fire Emblem. They're not quite apples and oranges, more like two different but equally tasty apples.

...that probably didn't help you at all. Perhaps for those of us who didn't play Silent Storm, say what you liked about it?

As long as my fem character doesn't up having sex with a girl like in Dragon's Dogma. Nothing wrong with that by the way (I don't identify as straight) - I just wanted to play a hetero character.

There's only hetero romantic relationships so no worries there. Only the opposite sexes can marry each other and have kids.

Zomg. So...yes, I finally unlocked the "pair up" option. Much different, I get what you're saying Shep. I must've been way behind when you first mentioned it.

This game is incredible and overwhelming at the same time. There's so much to do, lol, and I now realize there's zero chance I can "do it all".

Oh and I'm pairing Sully and Virion up to watch them bicker.
