Forget realism it's the consistency that should bother people, despite DA suffering heavily from gameplay and story segregation.

I can't say I've ever cared about this one way or the other.

Of course:

"Abnormal mundane endurance is, but it's not so blindingly obvious and unbelievable as abnormal feats of strength (or speed). You can see the giant rock being lifted, or the cratered earth, or the hot rod speed dash, and it's just an immediate "a person couldn't do that.'"

That would be speaking for me. It is a leading question, putting words in my mouth.

Just pretend it's an "I" then, Jesus. I didn't even intend that implication and it's not at all relevant.

This thread, and all threads on this topic, are basically about arbitrary lines that have been crossed. It is kind of hard for Bioware to do anything about completely subjective arguments without knowing what the majority prefers and that is almost an impossibility.

Given that your entire argument is premised on their being a distinction between an injury and a combat manuever, whether it was intentional or not, it was most certainly relevant. If it was obvious the two were different then your argument would be quite reasonable and my position would be very unreasonable.

I'm not upset, but it's important to set out that I don't agree with your very fundamental premise that these two things are at all dissimilar.

Definitely, I just prefer my own arbitrary lines, to which the best label I might come up with might be "superficial realism" in this case.

Well, that's fine.

We don`t have healing spells or healing potions in our world. They do in Thedas.

That's not realistic.:innocent:

It is in DA, since its part of the lore.

Like Sten is just a "special" Qunari or mages can't teleport?<_<

This ability of players to dig their head in the sand is exactly why every realism topic is just an exercise is hypocrisy.

You are exactly correct.

Perhaps we should instead ask players how much whimsy they want in their combat animations.

Yes, I agree. And I'm the first to say that I'm fine with most levels of stylized action combat, and my threshold is something like... dragonball Z as an anime example of jumping the shark. When the absurd power curve goes so crazy that you have characters shattering continents as part of a usual fight, then things have gotten out of control.

But otherwise, I prefer these flourishes becuase to me they are the only things that make the actual combat itself even midly coherent with the actual rules which seem to govern the players lives.

This topic is...in my opinion a wasted effort :/

So many things you could make a "realistic" thread about and this small pre alpha technique (assuming its the warriors smash ability) is what was made about? I'm sorry I DO see why the question was posed WITH good intention I'm sure. But it's all irrelevant in the end when it's 1 a game. 2 a fantasy world as in aka most things are pushed to unbelievable proportions.

Just so much more that makes this such a small problem to the fact that the reason behind the complaint is "unrealistic". If this was a thread on the smash ability changing to what it smashed such as wood, steel?, ext. then that would be worth the discussion. Not this :/ this in my opinion is nit picking and nothing more and I apologize I can't see beyond that.

Mages can`t teleport. They look like they can in DA2, yes. But its supposed to be some sort of illusion magic.

I don`t get your Sten comment, though.

That combat was just too much full of Awesome. I can't but help to think that it is made to lure in more gamers age 10 - 15. Kids may like it but for me, nay, it is the opposite.

The Qunari were retconned to have horns in DA2 despite being hornless in Origins.

Implying only kids enjoy this kind of gameplay...

Or you know Bioware might simply prefer this type of combat.

Well the devs said it wasn`t teleporting. It looked lame anyway.

They arn`t retconned at all. Some of them have horns, others don`t. Ogres are qunari tainted by the blight. They have horns in DA:O as well. Check some wiki page and you will see that there is no retconn involved.

I just want to throw in my 2 cents and say that- overall- I liked DA2's combat animations. I thought they looked fine by themselves, and only looked ridiculous once attack+movement speed buffs were put into play. If you play a 2h warrior without any attack speed bonuses, it actually looks pretty decent. I also happened to like all the leaping and flipping that rogues did. And the Mage staff attacks.

All that said, I wasn't too thrilled by the rock spawning sword attack. But guess what?

ALPHA FOOTAGE! It's a visual effect that probably isn't done, and that attack might not even exist in that form in the final game.

I'm not worried. I dig the last two DA games and this one is looking absolutely fantastic so far.

That's a stupid excuse they gave you know it.
Except they were,a handwave for Sten's appearence every Qunari in Origins was hornless,Nope they just come from Qunari broodmothers.

My point is the devs will disregard the lore if it suits them

It would certainly be an improvement, if it's not the case already (we haven't seen that much gameplay, to be fair). Since this is pre-alpha, I hope they'll consider something like that, if nothing else.
