This might just be semantics, but how can the the Empress be lured away by rumors of a Dalish rebellion? The Dalish can't rebel against Orlais, they aren't under Orlesian authority. City Elves can rebel against Orlais, Dalish can only attack it. Does Asunder mention the Dalish or just the elves in general?

I don't believe it specifically points out a Dalish. If you were referring to my post it was hypothetical posting as you would have a large group of Dalish meeting at the same time which would fit for great timing, to help add fodder to the rumor. However without having the book in front of me this will have to do for quick reference that Gaspard was plotting against Celene. "Grand Duke Gaspard is moving against the Empress and has lured her to Halamshiral with the story of an elven rebellion so as to ambush her"

I was referring mostly to the general premise of the Empress responding to rumors of a Dalish rebellion that I'd heard about since Asunder. It just struck me as a little weird, if it did mention the Dalish because, they can't rebel so why would she fall for it?

I hope so. Failing that, I'd like to at least get the ball rolling on freedom for elves.

That leave us with:

  • Anecdotal evidence in-game DA:O, with the one visible example being conclusively disproven by the Warden.
  • Second Hand statements from a writer that are over a year and a half old.
  • First Hand statements from a writer that are a couple of months old.

Actually there is a bit more than that. When you talk to Master Illen in the Dalish origin he explains how his father battled the Alamarri tribres when the Dalish first came to Ferelden, which all things considered was a long time ago.

Again with the Dalish origin, when you get to the Dalish Camp Sarel asks how Paivel is doing and mentions that Paivel was old even when he was a child. Not as definitive admittedly but still it is something.

Finally you also have Ghaynae in the Dalish camp that mentions Dalish tend to live longer than City Elves, but that could just be due to the poor conditions in the alienage and such so less noteworthy.

All of this is anecdotal.

I strongly suspect the thing with Master Illen's father might be an oversight from an earlier idea that got left in the game, like the comment Tamlen makes about Maharial helping Master Varathorn. Because if it were true that would make them both older than Zathrian.

I believe it is left vague at an Elven rebellion. I am sure someone who has more knowledge of the book or quicker reference can correct me.
No the Dalish would not need to rebel, but it would not take much to provoke them as there is no love lost with a majority of the clans towards the humans.  If you have the humans lashing out towards the elves at a "perceived" rebellion was what I was getting at, and the Dalish were caught in the cross fire as they were there for their gathering they would fight back
As I had mentioned my thought was mine.
