I would love a game with my Sassy Hawke and her Anders back, plus Varric, Isabella, Alistair, Fenris, Merril..

Alas, not many seem to want it but there is always fanfiction!!

Their stories are done.  Time to move on.

Aye, there's the rub!

For what cameos may come when our PCs have shuffled off this mortal coil must give us pause.

To cameo, or NOT to cameo--THAT is the question!

Whether 'tis nobl'r in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fanwanking

Or to take arms against a mob of fans

And by opposing, silence them!

Cameos are by definition short. I don't see why anyone would get really bothered by them.

Isn't that more a complaint about the specific content of the cameos than the existence of them in the first place?

It's the potential content of the cameo we fear. The appearance of Hawke or the Warden would not be as our characters, but as NPCs, and anything could be done to them of by them, and there's not a darn thing we could do about it.

Too many cameos make the world seem too small. In ME the cameos made a little more sense since you were at least playing the same character. Why does the inquisitor need to run into all the same people as the warden or Hawke did? Are these really the only people in Thedas that have any sway on larger events?

I do look forward to the new setting and characters, but if your previous choices ever mattered, then cameos may be inevitable.

Ultimately, the DA series didn't have an overwhelming amount of cameos. Just enough, as far as I'm concerned.

I kind of agree.

I say 'kind of' because I'm okay with a few cameos so long as the make sense. Some of them however might be pushing it a bit. Lets say Alistair for example. Assuming he is the king of Ferelden, why would he be wandering through Orlais?

I wouldn't mind a few cameos of important characters, but *not* if their appearance has changed. I thought Alistair, Bann Teagan, and Zeveran's characters were too different from the original.

I don't mind cameos if they serve a purpose and aren't just there for fanservice. I love Zevran, but his appearance in DA2 was just... so random and pointless. At least Alistair's cameo as King brought along some info about Ferelden and made sense as far as his being a head of state visiting another assumed head of state (Meredith).

The main problem I see on the BSN is that everyone and their mother demands the appearance of non essential, hardly noteworthy NPC's or party members that could be made important to Inquisition's plot, but really shouldn't be. For instance, could Sigrun, Merrill, Zevran or even Oghren be given important roles in Inquisition? Certainly, but why go through the trouble of crafting an entire backstory for their sudden importance when you could spend all that time and energy on making new and fantastically interesting characters?

Fan service is fine in small doses. I'm fine with a cameo or two if they're placed well and make some sense.

Cramming the game full of contrived situations for cameos, just 'cause a handful of fans of each character wanted to see them to satisfy their headcanon, is ridiculous. The writers, I imagine, have better things to do.

I want DA:Inquisition, not DA:The Cameo Adventure.

I agree and I don't think they will bring any more back other than Varric as far as companions go. Tho I think either Charade Amell or Feynriel as a possible companion would be good as we were briefly introduced to them already.

I love cameos, but i agree.. this kind of stuff would be perfect for a "fan service DLC"

He wouldn't be wandering in Orlais. You'd meet him in Ferelden, considering that you'll visit it, and not only at the start of the game.

That worked for ME, but what would be the point in DA? The Inquisitor wouldn't really know any of these people.

"Hey Quizzy, it's Oghren, we only knew eachother for all of 30 seconds, but lets meet up anyway. Maybe I can reminisce about stuff you weren't there for while we're at it!"

The Inquisitor would be like a third wheel between the character and the player. :S

I think that we will see cameos of characters that might have a reason to be in Orlais, Tevinter or in the Dales. Maybe Fenris is trying to do something against the Magisters? Morrigan, Sandal and Bodahn are already in Orlais, so they're appearance would make sense. If you let Anders live, maybe he is redeeming himself in Orlais as well, as it is currently being devastated by civil war. Only cameos that can be explained by the characters motivation should happen.

Alistair would only make sense, if he stays in Ferelden, as he would most likely protect his country from the effects of the mage-templar and civil war. Others are even less likely.

I don't mind cameos by old characters but I don't want any more taking up companion spots. I prefer new people to be companions.

If we, for instance, visit a warden stronghold, I expect the surviving wardens from previous games to be there, or at least mentioned in NPC banter, but not necessarily all of them. Loghain, Alistair, Oghren, Bethany/Carver, Stroud, etc. A few of my Zevran's even train the new recruits.

If we end up in Fereldan, I expect to be important enough, as the inquisitor, to have an audience with the king or queen, depending on who's on the throne.

Mostly, I expect codex entries and NPC banter.

"Did you hear? They say the Hero of Fereldan has returned. The king/queen must be so happy..."

"Did you hear what happened in Kirkwall? Seems a mage lead a coup against the Templars and started this whole mess..."
