Huh. The Hanar to the rescue.

Wonder why they only sold time-shares to a few Drell and left the rest to die. Seems they might have considered uplifting the Drell, much as the Enkindlers did for them. You know...help them work out space travel, establish colonies, master asteroid mining...that kind of thing. I mean, I respect them for saving the few they did, but with 400 years or more to help out the species, you'd think they could have taught them to help themselves.

He's a warm-blooded reptile, like the dinosaurs.

dinosaurs were likely warm-blooded, like birds, but may have had a hybrid sytem also - it's impossible to be sure, despite soft-tissue evidence.

So what about the mammlian traits he has?

My hypothesis is - reptilie-like looks cool, but he was designed as LI, hence mammal. So we have reptomammal. Clever BW B)

Colectors sounds interesting.  Remind me of   Card's "Enders Game"  series.

Hmm more reptilian than fish like. Well now thats sorted out :) Im normally against any religion that misuse their brainwashing power.

But it seems the Hanar and the Drell are more of the non-zealous sort. They might preach but only to those who want to listen, not forcing their religioin down over other species heads and such. Would be really nice to visit their homeworlds too! I bet its more possible for the hanars than the drells since we have Tuchanka which are pretty dry and barren too.

BTW, werent there a planet in ME 1 that resembled the hanar homeworld alot, like 90% covered n ocean too?

Tee-hee, yes, I did notice one typo in particular (anything else...well, I can let the other stuff lie except for the kind of glaring one that was majorly wrong), but eh, we do get what they're saying. :P Anyway, hah, his race is reptilian. Well good, I hate seafood anyway.

Where's the 400 year mark coming from? As it is, I don't imagine that the Hanar exactly wanted to get involved in the wars raging across the Drell homeworld at the time - nor would they want those wars to spill over onto their own planet. The Hanar don't strike me as exactly having a lot of resources to draw upon, anyway - they likely don't have a big fleet or anything like that.

So they saved who they could and left the rest to fight it out.

Thanks Chris. It's too bad the drell have short lives compared to humans (150 years). I wasn't really expecting that. So that makes Thane even "older".

This information on the drell is certainly surprising. And my opinion of the hanar went up slightly.

Um, It say the drell reptilian. However, I think the writers are completely wrong.
They are obviously more closely related to amphibians. See how they have two
sets of eye lids and voice sack, just like frogs. Most likely the Drell are neither, but
they definitely not are reptiles. Sometime I wish the writers and game designers
would take a few collage level biology classes before make a fictional alien race.

It is a little Ironic that BioWare's founders are Doctors.

Actually...

The 'inflating' of the neck comes from the cobra, which 'inflates' its neck hood and flattens it. That particular action would definately have some affect on vocal cords in that region, altering the sound it would make.

Also, the inner eyelids are nictitating membranes, which are common in birds, amphibians, and reptiles. Thus, not amphibians.

Okay well reptiles have 2 eyes, and some species do have voice sacks like the anole lizards. Also some ptrerosaurs have sacs as well.

That sack doesn't produce any sound. It is just used to flag down a mate.

Okay why do I picture Thane going up to a female Shepard And flashing her his sack.:o

What is with the grammatical and spelling errors? Hell, I could fix that for you. A multi-million dollar company can't hire a text editor? GRAGH!!!!!

Actually, I just reread the article and it looks like almost all the help from the hanar occurred 800 years ago and lasted only ten years.  After ten years, it seems the hanar left the rest of the drell on Rakhana to die.  I understand not wanting to get involved with wars and such, but it seems they still could have worked to help more of the species over the century.  Again, a tremendous act of charity on the part of the hanar.  Just strange that it stopped so suddenly and with no real effort to help the greater population by giving them a chance at colonization.  Of course, with a population of 11 billion and the Krogan Rebellion in fairly recent memory at the time, maybe they were just hedging their bets.

Oddly, the article also says drell have only been part of the galactic community for 200 years, despite having been in cohabitation with the hanar for almost 800 years.  I wonder where the gap comes from.  Did they all stay on Kahje or did it just take that long for them to become enough of a unique power?
