so, after playing Saints Row IV i got to thinking... why is it that most of my characters in DA end up looking far too similar? the flexibility of facial creation was sorely lacking, particularly in DA2 where there was very little change from one extreme to another. i hope this is something that DAI resolves. i understand that depending on the race, there will be certain aspects that are harder to change or less flexible, but i'd like far more opportunity to make a character look entirely unique. i know SRIV is different kind of game, but looking at that game, the ability to create... say... a celebrity look-alike or your favority game character is astounding and should be utilized in any game that allows you to create a custom character. also, DA2's lack of customization when adding facial hair was pathetic and disappointing at best. i know in another thread a while back someone mentioned that DA was a far better customization tool than any other fantasy RPG, even naming games like Dragon's Dogma. on that note, i gotta disagree. once i figured out DD's way of customizing, i found it a huge improvement over DA. anyone else have an opinion on this?

I liked the level of customization that the toolset for DA:O gave the player when creating faces. But this can be overwhelming as well. Perhaps that's why they were simplified in the actual game.

never got to use it myself on the console version, so yeah, that argument is kinda moot by comparison. and perhaps that's true... but i know myself and many friends like the idea of customization. i could spend a while just toggling and tweaking stuff. it would certainly add to the value of multiple plays through the game when i know each and every character is as unique as the story i mold is.

perhaps this could be an added bonus to the dragon's keep app when it's made available... the ability to create your inquisitor for import into the game as well... much like SRIV's innauguration station was.

I liked the mirror in the DA2 DLC. It seemed to offer a better idea of how the characters face looked in game, as opposed to the character generator at the beginning of the game.

My big gripe is hair. I think having at least a unique options for hair style would do a lot in differentiating the PC. Alas, I don't have access to all the terrific mods as I play on console.

I hope the CC will at the very least let us either radically change the shape/dimensions/tilt/etc...of the mouth or give us different mouths to choose from (like Mass Effect) since we could choose eyes and nose.

Be sure to put some really nice looking presets in like in DA2, because I'll never get to the actual game otherwise. I'll spend hours trying to make a good looking character, start the game, realize the cheekbones seem too high if looked at from a certain angle under certain lighting, then start all over again...

...and do that over and over again infinitely, each time for a different part of the face.

I think it's clearly needed.
With the recent controversies over asians and dark skinned folks in the game, to be able to design your Inquisitor to suit your roleplaying seems very important.

Bioware, I want the same range of customization I was offered back in Baldur's Gate. If I want my inquisitor to be green, green he should be!

Dragon's Dogma had pretty good customization too.

I would actually welcome an "expert mode" that you can switch to. In my imagination it would then allow you to manipulate the sliders at a greater range, or even provide additional sliders. Just slap a warning label on it when activating it ("We don't recommend it, clipping issues, game could crash, etc.").
This way it wouldn't be confusing for the majority of players, but offer more freedom for those who can handle it.

This. :)
What bothered me the most in DA2 was the mouth shape - always the same. xd
I would like to see more hairstyles too.

This is something I'm interested in also.  The Face Customization is really important to me.  I know, I'm a weirdo.  DAO'd cc was okay and DA2's was not my favorite and worse than DAO.  It was my least favorite despite how much I loved the game.  Since I play on console, mods and the like are not something I can use so, I'm really hoping for  ood, robust character creation options.  I'd really like to be able to tweak everything that is possible.

It would help to have more choice of features. Both DAO and DA2 had about:
-four pairs of eyes
-four noses
-four pairs of eyebrows

That's already very limiting in your facial features, whereas ME had perhaps a dozen of each, and mouth shapes too.

I liked the mirror, too. I hope we have something like that in Inquisition for our keep. Maybe a simpler mirror, or a dressing table or something like that.

Did you prefer DAO's, or DA2's?

Mass Effect's cc was terrible though, one of worst when it comes to all characters looking like deformed twins of each other. The only reason npcs didn't look like shepard was because they used a different model.

and yes saints row probably has the best cc I've ever experienced, it somehow manages to have zillions of options capable of creating all sorts of likenesses from real people to cartoons yet remain extremely user friendly.

Also you can be fat. Wooo positive body image, all shapes are beautiful, etc.

Saints Row's character customization is fantastic. I almost had more fun playing with that than the game in itself.

And I'd definitely welcome more advanced facial customization for Dragon Age: Inquisition. And more options in general. I want freckles and a mohawk, dammit!

Ugh, this. If the only changes they make to the CC are to give us better zoom and lighting, that would still be a massive improvement.

Ofc I'd definitely like to see a wider range of choices and control, especially as mentioned for the mouth shapes. After going back to play DAO and DA2 lately that lack of option seemed suddenly very jarring to me. Fingers crossed.

i asked mike laidlaw on twitter about this when comparing it to saints row and here's his feedback just now:

We’ll do our best, but SR is one of the best character creators in the industry, and only deals with “human” sizes.

looks like they're well aware the flexibility issues and looking to fix this. hopefully we'll hear some more info about it soon.
