WARNING GAME SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

I really enjoy Alpha Protocol, I enjoy the story, the characters, voice acting and the variation in the storyline. The gameplay is rough however, and that does undermine the game's rating, but the RPG and dialogue system makes up for that for me. The dialogue system is very good as you can express yourself as being cocky, ruthless, professional, or a combination of all three.

My experience of the game was very enjoyable first time around, as I played a ruthless agent. The story narration is like that of DA2 Varric telling the story of Hawke while being interrogated, somewhat similar to Michael Thorton being questioned by the main antagonist. Characters can develop and a love or hate relationship with the player depending on what you do in the game such as killing innocents or how to express yourself as characters will remember your behaviour if you were cocky or not.

Characters reaction to the player vary depending on yout relationship with them. In the final mission in Rome, I chose to sacrifice Madison to save more innocent people, and when it came towards the end of the game, I chose to save my handler but she hated my character because I was very ruthless. So she questioned why I came to save her and recounted some of my decisions such as letting Madison die and watching a Russian businessman get beaten to death, and my character rebuffed against that saying he had to make some very hard decisions and it was a very good encounter.

I enjoyed Alpha Protocol.  Bought it day one and never regretted the purchase, I like how decisions had to be made through reaction and quick decisions.  Played through the game several times and coem back to it at least once a year.

Love the characters in the game and how they react to you based on your influence with them (like/Dislike).  Last time I played I actually changed a boss fight based on how I treated the character during the game (Normally he runs at the end but I got soo under his skin it got him enraged and made him attack me instead of running, i love little things like that)

Ya the game was a little rough around the edges but I never encountered any bugs (aside from one that removed item icon in the world map)

Would love a sequel but I doubt that will happen.

My thoughts exactly! Seeing as a sequel never happened, I hope the game gained a cult following. A lot of variation was in the ending as t who you choose the handler or how Scarlett would appear either by in the interrogation room or shooting you with a sniper rifle.

And who can forget the infamous fight with Konstantin Brayko.  I diead the first time I went into that because I was laughing so hard at how they set it up.

Of course again how you handle the aftermath of that fight can change several plot elements later in the game, even eliminating a boss encounter I found out recently.

It has timed dialogue, right?

I definitely think it is underrated overall, but I also disagree with some of the claims made by the few who do like and reference it.

I call it reactive dialogue.   You will be in conversation and you will have a set time to react, I liked it as you had to weight what the person says and respond a bit more like in real life where one acts and you react, it gave more weight to choices and if you observed you people you talked to react to different responses you could actually get begin to read them and figure out what they like and don't like.

I have it.
Haven't gotten very far into it.
It has some serious flaws according to reviewers .
Stii it's pretty unique.
Sony considers it a flop and since they own the IP, there won't be a sequel .
One of those games where the flaws could be fixed in the sequel and an excellent game produced , so it's sad imo.

From what I've seen, I'm sad I'm not one of the people who picked it up and enjoyed it. I can handle rocky gameplay in favor of a good RPG (Of Orcs and Men proved that).

I really enjoyed the hell out of it. All those bad 'reviews' I read? I'm glad I decided to ignore them and grabbed the game when it was on sale. Great purchase.

Alpha Protocal was a really great game, poor reviews, it's Obsidian bugginess qoutes, and allot of bad opinions I read kept me from playing it for a while. One day noticed a good deal and thought, wait a minute it's Obsidian I'll probably love this as much as anything else they had made. And I was so right. I really love the character interactions, and the timed dialog took getting used to but that helps realism as well. Despite it's flaws I thought the game was exciting, interesting, & thoughtful. It's a shame there wont be a sequel.
I like the stealth gameplay, I always love when games give you a choice like that becuase the challenge of making it through a level in a shooter game without killing anyone excites me. Although I do think games like Metro 2033 & Last Light have done it better, I think that also proves that kindof gameplay works & is marketable.

Some of the boss fights were really frustrating. The Brayko boss fight gave me fits, but having "Turn up the Radio" going on makes up for it. The dialog was great and I liked the 'little things' that your actions could cause. Thorton could be real jerk in this game. Renegade Shepard has got nothing on this:

Amazing story. Abysmal combat. It is like every bioware game ever.

I went Professional (Bourne over Bond & Bauer). Couldn´t kill that bastard in Rome, but having him walk out of the main villain at the end almost made up for it.

I guess gameplay can be frustrating, but fortunately my favourite style, non lethal stealth hadn´t this problem. Almost the opposite in fact, pistol was quite OP.

Playing suave was great, backgrounds provided for Thorton were good too from spy to freelancer. But my playthrough as aggressive, cold, manipulative and just out-right shooting targets was a memorable experience.

Yes and no. The corridor level design and buggy game mechanics turned what could've been an all-time classic into "merely" a gem in the rough.

It's both, actually. People blow it out of proportion and then make the combat look like it was designed by a retarded monkey.

It's C&C is great, but it's so well done it creates a distinct lack of quality in other areas. Plus, I still feel the Witcher games do a much better job at it.

Yes and no.

It has a great story and characters and choices actually matter, but the gameplay portions are mostly awful. Its a good game with some flaws, but not the classic some of its biggest fans claim it is.
