I enjoyed Alpha Protocol.  Bought it day one and never regretted the purchase

That's pretty much how I feel about it.
Just like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines it's one of those games that I've enjoyed immensely, but that was considered a failure by the general public.
Very sad, since it means not only will there be no sequel, it also means that other developers will be discouraged to touch RPGs in those settings. :(

Dude, have you ever tried talking bad about VTM:Bloodlines on an RPG forum? You will get ripped to shreds. Perhaps it was back then; but it seems to me that now it's considered a classic.

That might be true now, but back then it got pretty bad reviews and completely underperformed sales wise. =/
Our local game store started selling the game ridiculously cheap not all that long after it's release because they had ordered way too many copies of it and it didn't live up to the hype.
I thought it was a brilliant game, one of those rare few RPGs that can actually give Bioware's games a run for their money.
Here's an interesting interview with it's developers about it's sad demise. :(

Edit: Hah, after reading that interview I'm very likely to pick up Dead State, and it seems like I need to dust off Bloodlines again too and hunt down all those unofficial patches.

On Alpha Protocol - I believe the problem is some people - especially reviewers HATE originality.

The odd thing is that many reviewers claim to want originality but they want all games to play exactly like a different game it looks like - If the makers did anything different then the reviewers will hate it.

Alpha Protocol was an RPG that looked like a spy/stealth/shooter - Reviewers hated it because it played like an RPG and was not an imitation of Splinter Cell/Metal Gear, etc.

AP was a very good game on the PC (with graphic and mouse tweaks). Very underrated, if you ask me.

This gorram game! I bought it cheap once and started playing it a few times over the last years, but I never finished it. I had serious issues with the clunky controls, and sooner or later put AP aside and played other games.

And that's a damn shame, because I believe a more polished AP could've been among my favourite games - I like the setting, the atmosphere, the dialogue and the reactivity. Ah well, guess I should just man up and give it another try soon...! ^^

Alpha Protocol, if you can get past some of the wonky controls, is one of the best RPGs out there. Every time I play I discover something new about the game. I would 't hesitate to buy a sequel (spiritual or otherwise) or support a Kickstarter for same if Obsidian ever decided to do one.

It massively deserves a sequel i would put so much money into a kickstarter for one. Bioware and many other companies could learn a lot about choice from that game.

Oh hell yeah, count me in for the kickstarter too if they ever do one.

The roleplaying? Yes.

The gameplay? Hell no.
