Alright, I would like to try something interesting, theres just something I am curious about.
I would like you all to first make a list of all the Bioware games you have played, your favorite one on top, and your least favorite one at the bottom. If you didnt play it just leave it off the list.
And after that I would like you all to make more lists to rate the same Bioware games again, but on specific parts, namely:
-story
-companions
-music
-combat
-most hours played
-immersion
-character creation and customization
I am rather curious about how much these lists will match the first list, try not to be biased though.
I will start of first.
1. Neverwinter Nights
2. Knights of the Old Republic
3. Jade Empire
4. Mass Effect
5. Dragon Age

Two notes: I judged Neverwinter Nights strictly by its single player experience without the introduction of online play or community modules. Otherwise it would shoot to the top of my favorites and immersion lists. For the character creation and customization category, I judged with gameplay mechanics taking priority over avatar customization. Hence Mass Effect and Dragon Age not being on top. How my character looks takes a backseat to how fun they are to play, and BioWare's recent offerings fall short in terms of gameplay complexity.

Interesting one. Can I rate all the games of BioWare I played? Let's see...
Games :
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2
MDK 2
NWN
KotOR
Dragon Age : Origins
I played Mass Effect, but it was on the PC of a friend, so I can't say
I own the game. I played it however, but won't rate it in here since I
don't know half of it.
-story
Baldur's Gate 2
Dragon Age : Origins
Baldur's Gate
MDK 2
KotOR (not much of a SW fan here)
NWN (sorry, but sad truth)
-companions
Dragon Age : Origins
Baldur's Gate 2 (have to say I was surprised by this)
KotOR
Baldur's Gate
NWN (if I consider the expansions, then it gets over BG1)
MDK 2 ( can't actually place it anywhere before. Characters yes, but there aren't companions in the game)
-music
Dragon Age : Origins
Baldur's Gate 2
Baldur's Gate
KotOR
NWN
MDK 2 (can't really remember it, but the others had quite solid music).

Baldur's Gate
KotOR
MDK 2 (no costumization)
So, the ending score would be :
1. Baldur's Gate 2
2. Dragon Age : Origins
3. KotOR (surprisingly, it was better than BG1 in some aspects, but I will rarely say so)
4. Baldur's Gate
5. MDK
6. NWN
Note : I hate multiplayer, which can somehow explain the low score of NWN.

I guess MDK II doesn't count. I loved MDK II but it's probably not fair to compare it to a bunch of RPGs. So here is my list of the Bioware RPGs I've played.

I'm sceptical of any of these lsits that does not include NWN at the very bottom.

This is interesting. Hmmm.
What I've Played:
1: Baldur's Gate II (w/ Throne of Bhaal)
2: Baldur's Gate
3: Dragon Age
4: Knights of the Old Republic
5: Neverwinter Nights (w/ Hordes of the Underdark which I've not finished so I shall not rank)
Story:
1: Dragon Age (longest and best stand-alone story, in my opinion)
2: Knights of the Old Republic (very Star Wars and interesting, but much shorter)
3: Baldur's Gate II (rated on only Shadows of Amn; the Baldur's Gate series together I would put at #1, but it's hardly fair to rate it that way)
4: Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal (stand-alone wouldn't make as much sense, clearly; see above)
5: Baldur's Gate (due to the amount of wandering and the difficulty of finding the story the first time through)
6: Neverwinter Nights (self-explanitory?)
Companions:
1: Dragon Age (liked all but one to some extent and didn't hate him)
2: Knights of the Old Republic (liked ... Canderous and HK-47)
3: Baldur's Gate II (never played through whole game with NPC companions)
4: Baldur's Gate (never played through whole game with NPC companions)
5: Neverwinter Nights (obvious?)
Music:
1: Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
2: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
3: Baldur's Gate (mostly for the title music)
4: Knights of the Old Republic
5: Dragon Age (technically good and fitting and all, but mostly not my thing - I liked Orzammar)
6: Neverwinter Nights
Combat:
1: Baldur's Gate II (high-level + AD&D = me happy)
2: Baldur's Gate (low-level + AD&D = me slightly less happy)
3: Dragon Age (don't like the activated ability/cooldown style, like everything else; mostly a matter of preference)
4: Knights of the Old Republic (memory hazy - clearly need to play again; memory is that nothing stood out)
5: Neverwinter Nights (don't like the camera, not as fond of version 3,
other things I can't place - and for single-player, dislike not being
able to control the NPC companions)
Most hours played:
1: Baldur's Gate
2: Baldur's Gate II
3: Dragon Age

5: Neverwinter Nights
Immersion:
1: Baldur's Gate II
2: Dragon Age
3: Knights of the Old Republic
4: Baldur's Gate
5: Neverwinter Nights
Character creation and customization:
1: Baldur's Gate II (tie; it's basically the same)
2: Baldur's Gate (tie)
3: Dragon Age (call me weird, but I still like stat rolling and portraits slightly better than not - and the set last name is so rarely used it's odd in most origins. Also, the broad one-handed/two-handed/dual-wield categories bug me somehow. How is using a sword and a maul the same?)
4: Neverwinter Nights (frickin' point-buy)
5: Knights of the Old Republic (frickin' point-buy)
Probably a few too many comments, but there it is.

Panderfinge, Neverwinter Nights is the best Bioware game made to date in my opinion.
It has a toolset anyone can use and easily allows for the creation of large worlds and can be played online. And you dont need to download anything to connect to these worlds online unless mods are used.
And it has roleplaying online. That combined with the players making their own worlds, houses and being able to customize armor and weaponry quite a lot, especially combined with mods offers players the ability to make any world and characters they want and they can have their own houses in the gameworld, designed and decorated by them.
Nothing can compete with that in my humble opinion.

But modding NWN goes outside Bioware, so it can't be considered 100% Bioware if you use the toolset for new worlds and all that stuff. For me, modded BG1 can easily take down any other BioWare game.

I have to agree with dark-lauron. If we're talking modded NWN1, then it's an amazing game that in many ways surpasses several other BioWare titles. However, that is all community content. The only way to keep this fair is by determining a baseline, and for me that's judging only BioWare's content.
@Panderfringe - You do realize these lists are all opinion, right? Last I checked you were not the sole arbiter of how fun everyone else determines a game is.

Though, doesn't it extend to personal opinion whether community content should count in a list for determining what games you prefer too?

Personally, I just like NWN best because I can do *everything* and *anything* with it. I can't do that with BG 1 or 2 or JE, ME or KotOR. Even DA is not able to.

True. That was an opinion. If someone else wants to factor in community content in their list who am I to argue otherwise? I did not do so in mine solely because it felt unfair.
Music
I hate music.
Is that *all* music or music in these games? I'm finding it hard to wrap my mind around this concept.

I'm not sure I like your categories, so here are mine:
-Overall:
1. DA
2. BG2
3. KotOR (and I dislike Star Wars)
4. Jade Empire
5. Neverwinter Nights (plus expansions)
6. Mass Effect
7. BG1
-Writing (It's seven iterations of the same basic story. It's the writing that makes the difference.)
1. Dragon Age
2. BG2
3. Jade Empire
4. Mass Effect
5. KotOR
6. NwN
7. BG1
-Companions
1. Neverwinter Nights (Deekin + Valen = Win) AND Dragon Age (Sten + Shale = Win, I can't decide which is better)
3. BG2 (would be the unequivocal #1 slot if it weren't for the fact that the class/race combos often meant that taking the companions you liked meant that your party was Full of Suck)
4. KotOR
5. Mass Effect
6. BG1 (redeemed by Minsc)

3. Dragon Age
4. KotOR (redeemed by occasional fun bit of slicing etc.)
5. Jade Empire

7. BG1 (gave everyone a bow and killed just about everything in the game that way because it was vastly more effective/efficient than anything else except vs. the Rooms Full Of Spellcasters, more repetitive than ME if you can believe it)
-most hours played
1. Neverwinter Nights
2. BG2
3. Dragon Age
4. BG1
5. Mass Effect
6. KotOR
7. Jade Empire (fun as it was, it's kind of a one-trick pony)
(Immersion should go here, but I don't think this functions as a category by itself.)
-overall aesthetics/customization
1. Neverwinter Nights (hands down)
2. Dragon Age (more potential than actual, because a lot of the other games are Full of Fail in this category. Sorry, this just isn't Bioware's strong suit.)
3. Jade Empire (yes, the customization SUCKED but I think the beauty of the setting made up for it.)
4. BG2
5. KotOR (think I used the same gear set with every character)
6. BG1
7. Mass Effect
-Overall:
1. DA
2. BG2
3. KotOR (and I dislike Star Wars)
4. Jade Empire
5. Neverwinter Nights (plus expansions)

The games I played from Bioware - in alphabetical order: Baldurs Gate (+add-on), Baldurs Gate 2 (+add-on), Dragon Age: Origins, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights (+add-ons), Star Wars: KOTOR
Overall rating:
1.] Neverwinter Nights - in my eyes best RPG ever
2.] Star Wars: KOTOR
3.] Baldurs Gate
4.] Dragon Age: Origins
5.] Baldurs Gate 2
6.] Jade Empire
Story:
1.] Baldurs Gate
2.] SW: KOTOR
3.] Neverwinter Nights
4.] Dragon Age: Origins
5.] Jade Empire
Companions:
1.] Dragon Age: Origins
2.] Baldurs Gate
3.] Neverwinter Nights
4.] SW: KOTOR
5.] Baldurs Gate 2
Music (and sounds): Cant remember really, am bad at this. I just remember music from DAO atm as I played it recently and some of NWN, but that doesnt tell about overall music or sound quality.
Combat:
1.] Neverwinter Nights
2.] Jade Empire
3.] SW: KOTOR
4.] Dragon Age: Origins
5.] Baldurs Gate 2
Most hours played:
1.] Neverwinter Nights
2.] Dragon Age: Origins
3.] Baldurs Gate
4.] SW: KOTOR
5.] Baldurs Gate 2
Immersion:
1.] Baldurs Gate
2.] Neverwinter Nights
3.] SW: KOTOR
4.] Baldurs Gate 2
5.] Dragon Age: Origins
Character creation and customization
1.] Neverwinter Nights
2.] Baldurs Gate 2
3.] Dragon Age: Origins
4.] SW: KOTOR
5.] Jade Empire
What I lack in the criteria is "Innovation", where Neverwinter Nights win absolutely. The things it offered in time it was released were quite new to the genre. Baldurs Gate and SW: KOTOR were also good here. Those three game just made you "oooooooh" in their time, because you couldnt see anywhere else what they offered. DAO on the other hand isnt much innovative - its a great game, but it isnt anything that surprises you. The only real innovation I can see are the companions and their relationships, which are very well done.

I did take the online hours with nwn into account but not the gameplay it offers. Otherwise the story, companions and all that would be better than any bioware game since some good roleplayers are way better than any NPC could ever be, but thats an outside source out of Bioware's hands.
The immersion I found online is made possible by Bioware, so I did make it count there.
I judge a game by all components provided by Bioware though, which does include patches, expansions, toolsets, online modes and all that. It would be strange to dismiss a part Bioware provided. It would be unfair to judge a game not on its full package but only on specific parts.

Mass Effect for each and every category, because it's the only Bioware game I have purchased and played thouroughly.
I've also downloaded SW: KotoR but the combat in that game really puts me off, and it probably would've taken me three hours to figure out how to beat the Rancor without consulting the ever-helpful Youtube.

I don't judge a game based on community mods and patches.
I judge a game exactly as it comes out of the box and plays as soon as it's been installed on my hard drive.

Must add though. KoToR + Dragon Age are both in my top 5 best ever games.
Neverwinter Nights + Mass effect are without a doubt top 20
And Jade empire is also a great game. (And i've played a lot of games)
I actually played BG 1 and 2. But this was too long ago for me to give a fair judgement.
Also i might add that Dragon age and KoToR are very close. Not even sure as of which to put 1 or 2 of them.
