And holy moly do I mean it!

People who read my status updates would already know, but for the uninitiated:
Today my longtrusted gaming mouse, a Sidewinder X8 (long since discontinued by Microsoft *grrrr*, it was a bloody good mouse!) broke.

More specifically for those that care (which shouldn't be more than one: me, but I'll tell you anyway), the lower thumb button stopped responding completely after it was already a bit finecky the past weeks. The mouse itself was obviously feelings its age too with irregular but highly disruptive input pauses where for a second or so nothing would register (very unfortunate when you're just facing a couple enemies in Bf3 MP as it happened a couple times, yikes).

Long story short, I had to buy a new mouse to replace the broken/breaking one (may you rest in peace, good ole Side'y), which turned out to be a MadCatz R.A.T. 5 for it's similar ergonomy and key layout.

And oh boy can't I hit squad with it. It's like trying to play the videogame using your offhand to control your mouse. It just feels utterly alien. Add to that effect the new functionality and hence different keybindings/profiles and you have the perfect recipe for disaster.

Like throw a medpack at the enemy instead of knifing him disaster.

Been now playing for a couple hours to force myself to learn the new mouse, but sure is taking its sweet time getting to me.

Did anyone have similar experiences? If yes, how long did it take to accomodate the changes for you?

Too high dpi ?, well i have not same issue but i've Qpad 5k LE and the ergonomy is f*cking amazing though it's beginning to feel really slow dunno why but when it was new it was pretty hard but after a few days if felt normal, when it goes below 3500 dpi on the other hand then it's too slow anyway how's your mouse ? and does it have 5000 dpi because it may be because of that it's hard.

Naw, that's not the problem. I came from 4000dpi and now 5600dpi. I had already scaled down ingame sensitivities to compensate and make use of the improved sensor accuracy.

It's the muscle memory that's messing me up bigtime. I'm only accustomed to two thumb buttons and the middle mouse button as programmable keys. Now I have three thumb buttons aswell as the sidescroll wheel (which can be programmed for two actions, once for left scrolling, once for right scrolling) plus the middle mouse button.

Also, the thumb buttons are oriented in a horizintal line, not vertical as it was with the Sidewinder. Add to that the slightly different mouse form and violá.

Ah ok, sounds like a cool mouse good for BF, CS and such games.

That's a major point why I chose it.

5600dpi
Philips Twin Eye PLN 2031 optical laser sensor (very high quality sensor!)
1000MHz polling rate
adjustable lenght
six fully programmable keys plus standard left and right button
x3 profiles you can switch by pressing another button

Mouse lies good in the hand (though obviously favouring claw grip, which makes it a bit odd to work with as I'm a palm grip user) and the adjustable lenght means there's no issue with medium to large hands, very accurate and just enough buttons to use for just about anything without overloading the mouse with keys like the Razer Naga, Logitech G600 or Corsair M90.

It's a brilliant mouse, no doubt, just playing hard to get right now.

Not really muscle memory but I had a similar experience with my headset.

When my old Turtle Beaches went out I bought a new pair. The first game I tried the new pair on was Mass Effect 3 MP. Oh boy did I not know how much I relied on sound to identify where the enemies where. I was running around like a chicken without a head and spinning around to face guys who where not behind me. I ended up having to stop playing because it sounded like they all where coming from behind me and it drove me nuts.

I ended up just watching ALOT of netflix on the headset until I got used to it which took awhile from what I remember.

Yeah, ME3 sound detection is spotty at best and even flat out lying at a good couple of times.

Even with my rather cheap virtual surround headset (Soundblaster Tactic 3D Alpha) I keep turning at sound clues only to look at nothing ... and then get shot from the direction I was originally facing before I got the false sound clue. Annoying, but rather easy to avoid with conscious effort.

Muscle memory is another b**** though, can't simply turn it off, hence my current difficulties with the new mouse. But it's getting better.

I'm good enough to run 24-15 in Bf3 CQ Domination with AK-74M against all those shotguns and M16 tryhards in the typical Scrapmetal clusterf***. Dat silencer, ehehehe!
