Combo with sabotage primer

1) Do I have to wait for the backfire effect (on organics) to start before before casting the detonator?
2) Do I need to get all the way to tech vulnerability to combo, or will a level 1 sabotage prime a combo?
3) I have seen that sabotage > incinerate on synthetics seems to combo without the 1.5 second delay. Does overload also work as a detonator, and without a delay?
4) Can sabotage prime an organic without the backfire evolution?

2) No, but the strength of the detonation is directly tied to the ranks of the two powers involved. (So a detonated level 6 Sabotage will do more damage than a level 1.)
3) Overload will also detonate. (It will even detonate FEs off of Incinerate.)
4) I believe so, but not 100% sure. But there are far quicker ways to kill organics than tech bursts.

Thank you for the answer. As for 3, perhaps my favorite combo in the game is area incinerate followed by chain overload. Me and EDI don't leave many corpse behind. Lots of charred meat, but few corpses. As to 4, which combos would you recommend for an engineer?

2. Sabotage always has backfire.
3. Sabotage does not setup Tech Bursts on Synthetics.
4. Yes because Sabotage always has a backfire effect, even at Rank 1. The evolution increases the damage of backfire.

1. The target is not primed for a tech burst until after Backfire has occurred, since Backfire is what primes with Sabotage. Whether you cast before or after really depends on the time of flight of your detonator. If you hit them before Backfire has occurred, you will not get a combo. This is also why it does not prime synthetics.

Are you sure about 1? I used Sabo a lot in MP, and it seems I get a TB as long as the target has that orangey glow to it, even before the backfire damage kicks in. (Although who knows with online MP lag...)

"While Sabotage can be used to prime tech burst combos, it requires the weapon backfire to occur (which happens around 1.5 seconds after the initial hit); immediately following up a Sabotage with a detonator power will not set off a tech burst. Because synthetics do not take backfire damage (they are instead hacked), sabotage cannot prime tech bursts on synthetics."
I stand corrected. In MP I usually got tech bursts off of Sticky Grenades. The delay before they explode must have been after the backfire kicked in.

These have already been answered, but I will answer anyway. Because I am bored.cap and gown wrote...
Some questions on using sabotage as a combo primer:
1) Do I have to wait for the backfire effect (on organics) to start before before casting the detonator?
2) Do I need to get all the way to tech vulnerability to combo, or will a level 1 sabotage prime a combo?
3) I have seen that sabotage > incinerate on synthetics seems to combo without the 1.5 second delay. Does overload also work as a detonator, and without a delay?
4) Can sabotage prime an organic without the backfire evolution?
1. Yes, you have to wait for the backfire before you can detonate with a power. Note that if you took Tech Vulnerability at rank 6 (which you should always take), the tech vulnerability applies as soon as Sabotage hits. This applies to all enemies.
2. You can combo with a level 1 Sabotage. Tech Vulnerability just makes it all the more awesome.
3. Sabotage will not backfire on synthetics, so you cannot combo synthetics with Sabotage. This applies to all synthetic enemies: turrets, geth, and Rampart Mechs (Omega DLC). But the Tech Vulnerabity evolution will increase the damage of tech powers like Incinerate and Overload. So you can kill a Rampart Mech with one Sabotage > Incinerate.
You can detonate Sabotage with Overload on organic enemies though. This is a very powerful combo for the Engineer, as both Sabotage and Overload cannot be dodged and can kill groups of enemies very quickly.
4. Sabotage can prime an organic without the backfire evolution, because Sabotage always backfires against organic enemies. The Backfire evolution just increases the damage of the backfire.

Thanks for answering. This explains what I was seeing with the Rampart Mechs. I would sabotage them then incinerate and, boom, down they went. I thought that was a combo, but apparently not.
