I've been playing some Tomb Raider and it abosolutely annoys me that once again the wolves are out on a search and destroy mission for Lara Croft. What is gaming's obsession with using murderous wolves as the go to bad guy? Can't we use real animals that kill people, like Hippos?

They didn't have any in DA2, so we're on the right track.

I'm sure they'll come back in DA:I.

Yeah, besides being beyond cliche, it's really too bad that games malign wolves in this way. Wolf attacks are very rare, and fatalities almost never happen.

It's just ingrained in most humans, I guess. They don't necessarily go after people, but have a history of going after people's stuff (pets/sheep/poultry/etc).

While I understand the distinction between wolves and "fantasy wolves," which are "more aggressive by nature," etc. etc., I've always disliked the use of wolves as enemies.

I'm okay with a modified, or "mutant" wolf, like a werewolf, or Dire Wolf, but the generic "wolf" should be a neutral animal. It would make more sense to have wild dogs as enemies, since they are more likely to act aggressively towards humans and live near human settlements.

I'd love to see that in a game. If it's not an urban space (i.e. countryside) wild dogs will travel in huge packs. I'd be pretty damn cautious as an adventurer. :pinched:

I'd absolutely die of laughter if a killer hippo came out of the water and chased my character.

I think Hyenas would be the closest looking suitable animal to please the wolf haters at Bioware and co. I know they're rather nasty animals and I just wikipediad and apparently they even predate humans. And Inquisition seems to have some africa like settings doesn't it.

I still want the hippo

As an animal activist I get quick tired of seeing game developers like Bioware using Wolves for an antagonist way. Wolves are an endangered species because of human error. Politicians orders the death of these beautiful creatures for being who they are, nothing more, and game developers are quick to use these animals for brutal ways.

So yeah I agree with the OP.

Cleaned up the thread somewhat as I saw many potential forks in the road that all led to bridges under construction.

No fdgvdddvdfdfbdfb it's people who kill people. Though i'd like to see killer turtles instead of wolves now.

*can't stop thinking about those beautiful magazine covers*:(
