Judging from the look of the previews, you're looking at the wrong game for that.
Edit: Though I see the appeal.

Yes, but this isn't a pre-industrialized society. This is a video game that uses wolves like they're some kind of monster.
Or simply a wilderness creature that can be hostile and dangerous, and (perhaps uncreatively) a relatively common thing in RPGs, for better or worse.
Spiders and Bears are also used (although the spiders are fantastical)

To be fair, it's just a stated preference. It doesn't mean that more fantastic monsters isn't still enjoyable.

Play The Witcher and you'll see what I mean. Dozens of silly looking and sounding creatures filling the place. I can't even remember most of their names.

And, as well, DA has been pretty good about this in the past two games. Unlike others as I mentioned above.

And then Alistair be there. So we can get the swooping line again. Literal swooping.

I am against spiders. To not have any giant spiders right out of my nightmares dropping behind me I would do some great many things.

I looked into this thread earlier and thought, "no way," but, nice job, Allan. Your expert modding doesn't go unnoticed.
I really liked the wolves in Driftmoon. They wouldn't attack unless directly threatened. They'd growl horribly until you'd really decided you wanted to pass.

Using extraordinarily violent creatures as a gameplay challenge for the character certainly isn't new. What is gaming's obsession with using murderous wolves as the go to bad guy?
A more realistic portrayal of wild creatures isn't going to be as common, but does happen in the gaming industry i.e. Red Dead Redemption or Assassins Creed 3. As far as in relation to Dragon Age: Inquisition, the DA series tends to branch realism and that of a fantastical nature, so where the threshold of fantasy begins/ends is up to the developers themselves. Can't we use real animals that kill people, like Hippos?
My personal take depends on the creature. For something hybridized like a minotaur or something otherworldly(like I don't know, monsters falling out of the sky), I'd say there's more leeway for cutting off realism for the "wow factor". If it's a nug, mabari or something with less of a mythical/magical feel to it, I'd go for realism.

Did you know earthbound, a 1994 snes game, had that. Of course it doesn't actually make sense since animals can't see your level bar.DragonRacer wrote...

i thought there was a thing in the codex in origins that said the wolves were more aggressive because of the blight? or something i dunno
that being said i hope we have less aggressive wolves in inquisition because i am a big dork for wolves and slaughtering them endlessly makes me a little sad. maybe just wolves that run away from you unless you get too close to their den?
wolf attacks do happen, but it's usually when they're either sick or someone's wandering far too close to their den and they're defending their home and pups.
You know, it would be pretty neat if the animals in the game had a "threat level" or something. Say, when you're lower level, you're seen as easier prey and have to defend yourself from them... but the higher level you get, the less chance an animal predator will risk its own life to try and eat you.
or how about we killed NOTHING? make love not war. let's be less like chimps and more like bonobosEntropicAngel wrote...

I should take a picture of my foot for you. I got bitten by a (scary
Australian) spider about a month ago and I still have scarring over
about 10cms.
No you should not.
