We all know that mages can manipulate the elements, heal people or even drain an opponent's life force. But I have a few questions about magic, since the wiki doesn't seem to have the answers I'm looking for. First off, how come Blood Magic is forbidden, but spells like Walking Bomb or Drain Life allowed? Two, what is the fullest extent of stealing someone's life-force? Can you steal someone's personality, intelligence, willpower? Could you technically steal a woman's child (that would be some really freaky stuff, and excellent horror material). Or do you just transfer what keeps them going?

Blood magic is forbidden for a few reasons, but primarily because it allows for mind control. Walking Bomb and Drain Life are nasty, but ultimately they just kill people in a slightly different way from a Fireball spell.
Blood magic also has a bad reputation because the ancient Tevinters (reportedly) used it to get into the Golden City. A mage using Walking Bomb never pissed off the Maker and inflicted darkspawn on the world.
Drain Life doesn't seem to do more than suck the lifeforce out of someone and transfer it to the caster, although I don't know if we've got any details on that.

-Blood Magic allows one to take control of others, making their free will moot and they just become puppets. So, it is banned, because taking control of someone is a far more dangerous crime then exploding them, because instead of ending, they end for themselves and then used for another's will all the while being conscious of it as a prisoner. So, a bit different from a zombie... which is still considered pretty bad if necromancy is used, but just using it as a puppet without spirits or souls involved is fine... this is just assumptions of why from my point of view.
-It's blood that is stolen, the magic from the blood, so nothing is stolen but the blood and whatever is connected to the blood (Theirin blood being really powerful because of being descendants of a legendary reaver... supposedly...)
